Skip the big, cavernous movie theater complex for a night and head instead to Electric Dusk Drive-In for something a little different. Settle in on the astroturf amidst the downtown L.A. city lights and watch the one of the most successful workplace comedies ever made. The 1980 Oscar-nominated 9 to 5 is the laugh-filled tale of Violet Newstead (Lily Tomlin), a clerical worker stuck in a dead-end job under the tyrannical rule of the supervisor (Dabney Coleman) that she trained. When the boss' good-natured secretary (Dolly Parton) and a new-hire (Jane Fonda) decide they've had enough, their revenge fantasy becomes an out-of-control reality. Join the fun during this audience favorite that features the indelible pop-hit theme song. If you like to munch while enjoying your film fare, there's a full snack bar featuring BBQ, candy, popcorn, candy and a large selection of beverages. Learn More

So terrific to be in my car in greater Downtown LA - in an open air parking lot somewhere between 11th and San Julian and San Pedro - watching Forrest Gump on the big screen. The Drive-In format was a fun when I experienced it years ago but all the fun is still there to enjoy now. They even had a snack bar with freshly bar-bar-qued hamburgers and hot dogs. Some might think this is TMI but there were clean "Andy Gumps" with soap and water - much appreciated. Raffle held and prizes awarded - good feeling all around - even an orderly exodus at the end of the evening. Will definitely be going back for more!!!
Next time I will definitely bring a portable radio with my new wireless speaker since I am afraid of leaving my car radio on - can't think of waiting for the AAA to charge my battery if I leave it on too long. In cold weather I would not want to leave all the windows open like we could this time.

We had a great time. Forrest Gump is a tremendous movie and a total natural for outside viewing, with food and wine. This isn't as refined as Eat Hear See. The movie was shown in an industrial part of downtown, not an area we would normally go to...continued
