This was a new venue/location for this show that happens every week, so all the bugs hadn't been worked out yet.
The comedians were very young, but decent.

Craig Shoemaker is comedy royalty and to see him in this relatively small venue was special.

The "club" is a Japanese restaurant that apparently closes at night for the show. The stage is tiny and it houses the comics and the band (poor comics!). When the 20 or so tables get full, they seat the rest of the patrons on a second-floor balcony, facing a chest-high, solid wall below which is the rest of the venue. Over the wall, a medium height woman (5'5") can see the comics from about their mid-thigh up. It does make you feel seperate from the rest of the room, which you can either take as a more intimate setting with your date, or a bit sterile and seperate from the room's vibe, depending on what you're prone to feeling.
The comics on opening night weekend were young unknowns of mixed talent--some were better than others, from two stars to a solid four out of five. There were some hilarious bits and some that could have had better delivery. I think there were five comics the night we went and two were polished and top-notch, two others were clearly still working on their act and one was somewhere in-between.....
Be forewarned that the club has a two-drink minimum. This was not disclosed on my tickets. For my date and I, that translated into a $40 tab on top of the tickets. When you put the tickets and the drinks and the tip together, I thought it was pricey.
It needs to be clear that it is a GAY comedy club!

Still a little pricey for an up-and-coming venue not yet established.

This club is a hidden gem. The comedians were hilarious and we all had a great time. I would recommend to anyone to visit the new location in the Wilshire Grand Hotel. They are located in an excellent Japanese restaurant with terrific service for dinner and throughout the show. The prices for the show are low and you get even more than expected. We met with Garrett Morris and his partner which were both very pleasant. They showed a sincere interest in my family. It was a lot of fun. Go there ASAP. Make reservations as they will continue to sell out and you don't want to miss a show. Get ready to laugh until it hurts. Thank you, Steven Ridnor

Everything was bad about this place. The comics were not that funny!
The services was really bad in the restaurant. The waitress double charged us for drinks, and did not tell us it was a 2 drink minimum nor did the gold star even Ad. A total of 50+ dollars for bad comic's , management and service ? Moca is free and plays are cheaper !!! We over heard one lady say ! " I looked everywhere on the site and didn't see info about a 2 drink minimum until she walked into the restaurant.

It was okay. Maybe it was because it was the 10 p.m. show and the comics were tired, but a few acted as if they just wanted to go home and get some sleep. Some were funny.

Great comics, comfortable atmosphere. Garrett is a riot and wonderfully friendly. Everyone on staff makes a great effort to ensure your enjoyment of the evening. The stage is literally in the back portion of a sushi restaurant. An earlier review mentions that some seats are in a balcony... not true. It's a "raised" area of tables and seating that's just up a couple of steps. There's not a bad seat in the performance area. Totally worth the trip downtown. Parking was easy, but cool to see the Metro stop just across the street.

A pleasent evening but apparently only 2 comedians per set, so if 1 isn't very funny, half of the evening is just so so, which was our experience. One comedian primarily told jokes (from notes in his pocket...) as opposed to having an actual bit or act, which I felt was somewhat boring. The staff and Garrett are extremely friendly and the seats were in the third row despite only buying a Gen admission seat. A very good size platter of sushi and cooked food for 2 is $20-25. I would potentially give it another visit in hopes of hitting on a stronger lineup.

I paid $22 to be able to sit in reserved seating but when we got there, we realized that we didn't have to pay anything because we were given a choice of where we wanted to sit. Other than, that the comedy was very good.

We had a good time at the comedy show however the comedy was a little dry. They definitely don't have the best comedians but it was well worth the price. The venue is very small and the tables/seats are squeezed pretty close together. Be prepared to bump elbows with your neighbors! Also, there is a 2 (or 3) drink minimum that I was not aware of. The venue offers a "full bar" but is really limited.

I am upset that I had to pay for seats. The place was not that busy and we could have just walked in.
Their was about less then 10 people who had attended the club was in a jap. rest. which the waitress couldn't speak any english, could not get our drinks right, I asked for a vodka/red bull waitress came back and asked me to write it down for the bartender (come un now/Comedians were really boring) I almost feel asleep the main comedian was ok but I think my 2 yr old duaghter makes me laugh harder they those comedians, but overall the only good thing I can say is was cool to Garret M. and take some photos with me. I would not attend the venue ever again, Way to pricing, food, drinks etc.

Downtown Comedy Club

it just so happens the headliner at the end of the show decided to write off the audience of mostly older vacationing clientele who were staying at the hotel and probably stumbled upon the comedy show happening at the hotel restaurant. my friend and I were not one of them. we were locals hoping for good comedy and what we got were GREAT openers but a really horrendous headliner that gave up even before he started. he insulted the guests, never did his own real material and spewed off about racist and offensive jokes that weren't even that original. i'd go back...if only this guy was NOT on the bill.

This event was horrible. Started 25 mins late. Only half the seats were full. The two warm up comedians were okay but the headliner, Barry Diamond, was really really bad. He was rude and clearly drunk and absolutely not funny. He is the worse comic I have ever seen. I felt like my time was really wasted. Don't waste your money or your time.

It wasn't as funny as I thougt it would be.

Parking is a problem, $30 or more is too much.
Fist part of the show was BAD secong part was good we give it 3 stars

We saw 5 decent comedians performing in a sushi restaurant in the Wilshire Grand. If you can get by the sushi vibe, the comedy is pretty good.
October 3-4: Vince Morris, Sarah Tiana
Vince's voice is strong and spreading quickly, hitting the road headlining at comedy clubs, theatres, and colleges around the country. Now a Los Angeles resident, Vince has flourished into television on such shows as Comedy Central's Tough Crowd, The Late Late Show, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, BET's Comic View, HBO's Sex And The City, and his own half-hour comedy special on Comedy Central. Vince has also showcased at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival and the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado.
Originally from Georgia, Sarah Tiana is quickly taking Hollywood by storm. Having opened for some of the biggest names in show business (Chris Rock and Dave Attell, amongst others,) she is ready to breakout on her own and prove that you can't always judge a book by its cover. On her decision to to become a standup comic, Sarah says: "Don't get me wrong, I love my hometown and the great "Red" state, I'm just glad no one told me I was bad in bed or I might be making a living in a short skirt on Crenshaw right now."
October 10-11: All-Star Comedy and Blues Weekend
October 17-18: J.D. Shapiro, Brian Swinehart
J.D. Shapiro is the writer of the smash hit comedy Robin Hood: Men In Tights directed by the legendary Mel Brooks. He also wrote & directed the award winning independent film “We Married Margo.” He is currently co-creating a new superhero series with Stan Lee and is gearing up to direct Knights! Of The Not So Round Table for National Lampoon. J.D. also has a new book that is going to be released at the end of 2008.
Brian Swinehart is one of the fasting rising stars in standup comedy. This Los Angeles native is so diverse with his train of thought, that one can clearly see and hear everyone from Bill Cosby to the late, great Sam Kinison running through his comic veins. Brian is currently preparing to tape his first ½ hour special for Comedy Central.
October 24-25: Sam Tripoli
Sam Tripoli views comedy as a calling rather a profession. It's a religion that he's been preaching to audiences at comedy clubs across the country and on television, including his hit new show The Wild World Of Spike on Spike TV. He has also appeared on Comedy Central's Premium Blend (receiving only one of two standing ovations in the history of the show) and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. On stage he's a force of nature, pacing the stage like a cyclone of funny as he questions authority and the conventions of our society one moment, then earnestly expresses his affinity for the bizarre the next.
When he's not on the road performing at colleges and clubs across the country, he's in Los Angeles working on new material, because one day soon there will be a rapture.
