World of Theater Explored in The Fool and the Red Queen

Full Price:
$25.00
Our Price:
$12.50

In the latest comic meditation from renowned playwright Murray Mednick, The Fool and the Red Queen experiments with archetypes to explore human nature and the processes of theater. A struggling actor named Gary finds himself at a nightmarish audition where the audience discovers the magical ability of the theater to create new realities -- in this case, a darkly funny and improvised play-within-a-play similar to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Marie and Bruce. Driven by poetic impulse rather than linear storytelling, The Fool and the Red Queen is a ruefully funny, lyrical look at the theater and the natural elements that drive us all. Learn More

While the acting was good, I thought that the play itself wasn't very well written. The worthwhile insights were overburdened with elements whose intent seemed to be limited to their shock value. My own opinion is that the offending anatomical slides (you know the ones I'm talking about) were gratuitous and didn't add anything to the play. I would immediately remove them from the production.

Mr. Moosa's story is jaw dropping. His skills as a performer and story teller are dynamic, fluid, funny, and effortless. His great cultural references coupled with his knowledge of the subject at hand, with the smooth direction of Mr. Zayas and collaboration of Mr. Shoaf, make an incredibly current, witty, sharp, and engaging evening. Worth seeing!
