Highly recommended for those who don't live in LA, but 6 locals aged 50+ went hoping that we'd find something new about a street many of us knew, and weren't overwhelmed by the places we went..
First, let me share that Josef, the guide, was great. Very personable and knowledgeable.but with an accent a bit tough to understand when talking to the group amongst lots of noise. Overall, he gets a 4.5* rating.
While the maximum on the tour is 12, there were the 6 of us and one Australian, so perhaps the number of people affected what we did and didn't do. Certainly we were surprised that there were only 5 stops in a three hour tour.
The first stop, a "Snow White bar," was an out of the way place right on Hollywood Blvd. that nobody knew, and the decor and stories were fun, even if nobody wanted the beer offered as part of the tour.
The next stop, Musso & Franks, is an iconic Hollywood restaurant that everybody from out of town will love. All of us had been there many times so it wasn't interesting or exciting, and because nobody wanted to purchase a martini we were in and out in less than 5 minutes.
We can't figure out why we went to Micelli's other than it was the first Italian restaurant in Hollywood and has been there forever. Nothing special about this place (there's another in the Valley) and the wine was decent.
Our favorite place was Boardner's, which has great old decor and had been around since the 40s, with stories to match. This was our favorite place and everyone enjoyed the cocktail - ginger and vodka that was very good! We'll go back.
Our last stop was the Roosevelt hotel, and I think Josef knew we had been there before as we went down to the pool area, looked at all the great looking people there and then said our goodbyes
Overall, if you're from out of town or a local who never frequents Hollywood Blvd, I think you'll really enjoy this urban adventure. We expected to go to more "out of the way" places, some of which we had heard of and/or some of us frequented earlier in our lives, and were disappointed we didn't go to those places.
