Did You Do Your Homework? -- Aaron Braxton's Hit One-Man Show

Full Price:
$22.00
Our Price:

A 12-character, one-man show about the realities of the modern urban classroom, Did You Do Your Homework? returns to Los Angeles following its acclaimed 2009 run at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and a recent reprisal at Asylum Lab Theatre. In turns comic, tragic and inspiring, Homework is staged by writer-director Aaron Braxton, who has 14 years of experience teaching in L.A. schools. The reality-based show, which follows a substitute teacher's journey through the bureaucracy of the system, garnered a 2010 NAACP National Theatre Award, among other accolades, and caused Back Stage to hail the show as "powerful" and commend Braxton as "a compelling spokesperson." Description

By Peppur Chambers
Directed by Les Wieder

Looking for a place where nobody cares who you are outside and “respect one another” is the rule? Welcome to Joe's bar in the world premiere of House Rules, a play about love, respect and Billie Holiday.

It's 1944. Billie Holiday, at the height of her career, walks into a rinky dink bar called Joe's.  But who is she in this different place? This is a world where a cast of eight characters try to hide something, find something, or just forget. That is, until a set of house rules changes everyone's lives forever.

House Rules is directed by the award-winning director and writer, Les Wieder. He’s been nominated several times for Los Angeles Ovation Awards and NAACP Theatre Awards.  His direction of his written script, “Sojourner – The Story of Sojourner Truth,” garnered the 2005 NAACP Theater Award for best ensemble production. “I was drawn to House Rules because of the writing, there's a jazziness to the piece,” Wieder says. “It's a story about dignity and what do you do when you lose love and respect. That is a theme I want to highlight within this story.”

This is the first full-length play for the multi-talented actor, writer and producer, Peppur Chambers. “I like human nature and observing people to see what makes them tick without the ability to wear a mask...for example, who is Billie Holiday without the gardenia? I wanted to explore what it like to bring these people together in an environment where they have to deal with each other.”  Chambers is also the creator of the sultry, sassy, sophisticated cabaret theater experience Harlem's Night: A Cabaret Story performed by the Brown Betties.

House Rules is produced by The S&P Experience, a production company founded in 2008 by Sabah El-Amin and Peppur Chambers. The mission of The S & P Experience is to develop, create, nurture and produce projects that positively develop the careers of women in entertainment. In addition to House Rules, the company also produces the popular Monologue Slam series.
