Multimedia Art Show Synesthesia Explores Process of Inspriation
- Full Price:

Where do ideas come from? How is the artistic process born? The multimedia show Synesthesia tries to tackle those questions with a game of "creative telephone.", in which eight artists working in different genres work together to inspire each other. The first artist was asked to select a fortune cookie and given two weeks to create a piece based on the fortune. The next artist will see that creation and then must design his own pieces, and so on, until this show, which will be an evening of their work performed live, in sequence, providing a unique glimpse into the creative minds of these gifted artists. Il Bidone, the swindle. Fabulously innovative with wonderful, original music. The show opens with an alluring ballerina and she is the thematic grace throughout the play. Excellent performances by each of the cast members with a solid hurray for the actor playing Augustus who brings reality to this circus of life. Read the synopsis of the play first so that you can link together the vignettes.Written on Feb 04 2008

Hated it. Checking my watch and looking for exit signs during the first 10 minutes is not a good thing.Written on Feb 04 2008
The bad- I absolutely hate cigarette smoke. Before we entered the theater, we were told there would be some smoking by the characters. I didn't realize it would be throughout almost the entire play! One person in the audience was coughing, and a few others were fanning themselves w/ the flyers. It's one thing to smoke to "get into character", but another to subject your audience to an hour and a half of second hand smoke in a theater w/ no ventilation! I must not be a Fellini fan, because the story was lame and didn't make me feel close to any of the characters. The last scene was so drawn out, I was just hoping the guy would die and get it over w/.
I would have left a LOT earlier had the exit been in the back instead of to the front of the stage.
The good- the acting was ok, except for one of the clowns. He over acted and shouted a lot. Very annoying when he started to cry. The theater was nice and intimate w/ stadium seating.

- Go! "This is an impressively mounted production, executed with aplomb by a solid ensemble. Okulus Anomali's music, Fionnagan Murphy's sound, Jeffrey Elias Teeter's lighting and Janne Larsen's set blend to create a haunting aura that is both whimsical and harsh. It's an ironical backdrop to what ultimately emerges as gripping human drama." --LA Weekly
