For a free ticket on Goldstar I thought it was pretty good, but if I had paid more for it I might've been disappointed. First, it was confusing when we first walked in because by the time the house let us in the show had already started and the nature of the skit was one where you felt like you had to see it from the beginning to really understand and get into it. Then the type of improv they were doing (some sort of "tag" improv) was a bit confusing to me and hard to follow at times. Also, the show itself was pretty short. I was expecting a few more acts with a different type of improv to change it up a bit.
The venue has a bar and it's definitely a happening scene - Saturday night in the middle of Hollywood after all - so overall it was a fun night given the atmosphere.

We had a good time. Small theatre, valet parking was convenient and cheap.

I attended The Lampshades show and thought that it was funny but my sister and two friends did not agree. I guess it is a hit-or-miss kind of comedy routine. I thought Kate Flannery and Whorey were a great comic duo and I have never seen anything like it. The tickets we got were good for the shows after The Lampshades so we decided to stay and saw two amateur improv groups. These two groups were not that funny. I was kind of sorry that I stayed.

The iO Rep Presents: "The Subject"
The iO Repertory is made up of some of the best performers that iO has to offer and now they're back with their next incredible form: “The Subject."
In this form (making its west coast premiere), one member of the group becomes The Subject and, based on a suggestion from the audience, the rest of the iO Repertory ensemble takes us on a tour of The Subject’s mind and life. We see their dreams and fantasies, meet their inner voice and experience how they truly see the world from inside their mind.
Trippy, huh?
The iO Rep consists of: Nick Armstrong, Mike Betette, Maria Blasucci, Greg Castle, Drew Coolidge, Karen Graci, Molly Hawkey, Dave Hill, Eric Hunicutt, Justin Johnson, Tony Lewellen, Erin McGathy, Kristy Nolen, Levin O'Connor, Marion Austin Oberle, Zabeth Russell, Brandon Sornberger.
DHT/Trophy Wife
DHT and Trophy Wife are mainstage harold teams at iO West that perform the "Harold." So, what is the "Harold"? The Harold is a form of improvised longform comedy. Developed by Del Close and brought to fruition through Close's collaboration with Charna Halpern, the Harold has become the signature form of Chicago's I.O. and is now performed by improvisational theatre troupes and teams across the world.
Close's book, Truth in Comedy, which was co-written by Charna Halpern, is the definitive text on the form. It describes a "training wheels Harold" as three acts (or "beats"), each with three scenes and a group segment. With each beat, the three scenes return. By the end of the piece, the three scenes have converged.

The Armando Show
The Armando Show is an hour-long improvised comedy show inspired by an audience suggestion, which the celebrity hosts interpret through a personal and truthful improvised monologue. Inspired by that monologue, a cast composed of veteran Chicago and Los Angeles alumni perform scenes that, in turn, inspire a response from Armando. This propels hilarious interchanges between Armando’s monologues and the company’s scenes.
Opening Night: The Musical
Opening Night: The Musical is exactly that - a Broadway-style musical that is made up on the spot, based on audience suggestion. Therefore, every night is the `Opening Night’ of a musical that has never been seen! Sadly, it is also the closing night, but closing night sounds so...final. And not even this cast can withstand the force of weekly wrap parties. So every show, whether a mind-numbing rock opera or a tap-dancing Phantom-filled fiesta, is a completely unique experience!
Based in Hollywood, California, the Opening Night cast combines the improvisational styles of the iOWest (formerly the Improv Olympic), the Acme Comedy Theatre, the Second City, and the Groundlings with the Broadway stylings of Rodgers & Hammerstein, Gilbert & Sullivan, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Bob Fosse, and Edith Head. Occasionally, they borrow the helicopter from Ms. Saigon. They usually give it back.
Opening Night: The Musical consists of: Shulie Cowen, Josh Funk, Andrew Melton, Derek Miller, Hilary Ryan, Norm Thoeming
Sketch Cage Match
Teams come from all over Los Angeles to compete in iO’s Sketch Cage Match. Once inside the cage, each team performs a sketch to be judged by audience vote. The winner returns the following week to defend the championship. Any team that wins 10 in a row gets a 1-hour, prime time slot on the iO Mainstage to showcase their winning sketches!
