More Information About Improv Group Ditka
Description
DITKA is longform improvisation inspired by Chicago’s favorite coach. DITKA's cast members are Second City alumni Frank Caeti, Brian Gallivan, Maribeth Monroe and Marc Warzecha. As alumni of The Second City Mainstage and ETC in Chicago, the DITKA cast was collectively a part of 14 resident revues at Second City. Since moving to Los Angeles, DITKA’s cast members have been featured on MAD TV, NBC’s Thank God You’re Here, Reno 911, ABC’s According to Jim, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Living in L.A. but maintaining a love for Chicago, DITKA wanted to form an improv group that would not only showcase their abilities at longform improvisation, but that would also have a name and brand that was keenly Midwest. Mike Ditka, winning coach of Chicago football, seemed a logical inspiration. After brainstorming improvisational formats and discovering a plethora of Mike Ditka quotes that were too hilarious to ignore, (“If God had intended man to play soccer, he wouldn’t of given us arms.”), DITKA’s longform was born.
Simple but effective, a DITKA show begins with a quote from Mike Ditka being read aloud to the audience. Inspired by that quote, an audience member gives DITKA a suggestion. From there, DITKA performs 45 minutes of long-form improvisation that might not have anything to do with the football legend himself, but couldn’t have been done without him. Go Bears!

The Los Angeles Studio Theatre hosts a mix of student shows from the LA-based training center. Late nights and all night on Saturdays, catch Resident Company alumni from the Chicago, Toronto and Detroit stages improvising and doing their own written sketch material.
