Now in its 60th year, the pioneering Paul Taylor Dance Company stages several of its acclaimed pieces at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Dubbed the "naughty boy" of dance by Martha Graham, Taylor's not only one of the greatest modern choreographers of the 20th century, he's also one of the 21st century's most daring innovators, still creating well into his 80s. His 16-member company embodies his continuing genius and nurtures new talent -- Tony winners Twyla Tharp and David Parsons are among its many distinguished alumni. Expect a wonderful show of kinetic movement, enthralling storytelling and surprising humor from one of the true legends of the form. Learn More
Born in Paris in 1962, Jérôme Bel studied at the Centre National de Dance Contemporaine of Angers and went on to dance for myriad choreographers in France and Italy. He is a significant figure in a group of contemporary European choreographers who question the fundamental parameters of their own practice—and of choreography in general.
Bel is acclaimed for a unique provocation to strip away all stage artifice in an effort to create a more honest connection between the watchers and performers. His conceptual work is focused on altering expectations and his productions are legendary for stretching the boundaries of the philosophical underpinnings of dance.
