Where do ideas come from? How is the artistic process born? The multimedia show Synesthesia tries to tackle those questions with a game of "creative telephone.", in which eight artists working in different genres work together to inspire each other. The first artist was asked to select a fortune cookie and given two weeks to create a piece based on the fortune. The next artist will see that creation and then must design his own pieces, and so on, until this show, which will be an evening of their work performed live, in sequence, providing a unique glimpse into the creative minds of these gifted artists. This show rocked! So creative, so original and so enjoyable to watch. The choreography and costumes were gems and the Calendar girls and back up actors and actresses all got into their parts 100%.Written on Jan 14 2009

The Calendar "Girl" Competition was great! I am hoping to take another group of friends now that it has been extended until Feb. 1st. Hopefully there will be tickets for additional dates on Goldstar.Written on Jan 09 2009

While some of the "plot" is a bit spacey and I'm not sure what it was exactly about, it really doesn't matter at all, you get it. It's delightful and wildly imaginative and the costumes, songs and choreography will make you happy every time you think about it.Written on Mar 09 2009

Now returning for a 6th year, the 99Cent Only show has become a Los Angeles tradition featuring elaborate costumes and sets composed entirely of items from the 99Cent Only Store. This year's spectacular, Calendar Girl Competition, introduces an exciting new twist: twelve bold beauties, each representing a local sponsor, compete for the favor of the audience and the ultimate fictional prize -- Miss Calendar Girl of All Crown! Audience members will select the winner in an unconventional, yet democratic process created by surrealist Ken Roht. With R & B music by long-time musical collaborators Ken Roht and John Ballinger, and costume designer extraordinaire Ann Closs-Farley returning, this year's show will be a fabulous musical extravaganza in plastic finery.
Creator Ken Roht says, "This year is a collage piece, using archetypal events from beauty pageants, and commenting on contemporary musicals, and on the psychological ramifications of glamorizing vanity. Sounds heady, but its going to be a blast... and an R&B dance party with infusions of vaudeville and Pinter..."
