If you're ever in L.A. make sure you check out the Derby Dolls. These chicks are hard-core no bs types. There are a lot of vendors out there too...selling some pretty cool stuff. They also sell beer and food. What more can you want? Went with a few friends who also loved it. Will defenitely go again.Written on Mar 30 2009

A fun and exciting event definitely worth checking out! Make sure to get there early enough to get a good place to stand! The rules of the game are easy to follow, the atmosphere is fun, and the excitement of the match will have you cheering loud even if you have no loyalties to a particular team.Written on Mar 30 2009

Never been to anything like this and to my surprise I enjoyed it.Written on Mar 30 2009
Very noisy, but not a rowdy crowd. Figured out the rules of the
game quickly and then got into cheering team on. Clean fun,
not dangerous or cruel as I had feared. Mostly young crowd and we
were among the few "oldies" but no problem.

This was a really fun event. Paid $12 for a standing ticket, and parking was easy to find for $8 in a parking garage. Would recommend getting there early to find a place to stand. My friends and I had no trouble finding a good place to see all the action. I've never been to roller derby and it was really easy to figure out how the game works. Very fun to watch, and the crowd got really into it. They also sell beer/cookies/pizza/t-shirts/raffle tickets.Written on Mar 30 2009

More Information About L.A. Derby Dolls Roller Derby: Fight Crew vs. The Swarm
Description

Beware the quads of March when the L.A. Derby Dolls, Southern California’s premier banked track roller derby league, unleash the Swarm on the 2006 champions Fight Crew. The event will also feature famed Los Angeles actor and singer/bassist of seminal punk band X, John Doe, as he sings the National Anthem.
After a sold-out debut bout with the Varsity Brawlers in February, the Swarm schooled the Brawlers with a resounding victory featuring an astounding 30-point scoring half by jammer extraordinaire Sarkastika (aka Steely Jan). The Fight Crew started their 2009 with a heart-breaking loss to 2008 champions, the Tough Cookies, but showed a return to their fight or flight form that won them a previous championship and had fans chanting “better red than dead.”
Debuting new uniforms from FootageHead, the Fight Crew will be soaring over the track in style. FootageHead is offering the first 200 Fight Crew fans wearing the trademark red a free Fight Crew/FootageHead beer koozie.
The Swarm, the banked track all-star team from sister league San Diego Derby Dolls, the only banked and flat track league of its kind, is creating buzz after their debut. Watch for stealth moves and vicious stings from the renowned Ivanna S. Pankin, in addition to Trish the Dish, Bonnie D. Stroir, captain Isabelle Ringer and Sarkastika.
The L.A. Derby Dolls are no fly-by-night operation. One of only a handful of roller derby leagues skating on the spine-tingling banked track, the L.A. Derby Dolls induce terror and thrills among their fans who witness skaters smashing into one another with the velocity of a 747 and the rage of killer wasps. No slouches off the track, the Derby Dolls recently participated with the Mayor’s office and SIPA (Search to involve Pilipino Americans) in a day of service to the community of Historic Filipinotown. The league has also formed a junior derby league for girls ages 9-17 to learn the basics of the sport.
Time will fly, but don’t miss John Doe, of legendary punk band X, singing the national anthem before the bout. During halftime, make a beeline for the Vendor Village, where hip hop artist CAVIE aka Caviar from Compton will be performing.

About the Ticket Supplier: LA Derby Dolls
Founded in 2003, the L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California's premiere women's banked-track, quad-skating roller derby league. Within the league, five fierce teams battle for dominance: Fight Crew, Sirens, Swarm, Tough Cookies and Varsity Brawlers. While their uniforms may be stylish and their names playful, do not be fooled by appearances - the L.A. Derby Dolls are athletes who skate a sport that is unscripted and real. Honored as a Treasure of Los Angeles by the Central City Association, the L.A. Derby Dolls embody the do-it-yourself, "for the skaters, by the skaters" ethos of modern women's roller derby.
