    <p>LA Weekly is partnering with Nike, Virgin America, and the Department of Cultural Affairs Los Angeles, for its first ever LA Weekend! An art festival by LA Locals for LA Locals to highlight what makes this city so unique! Proceeds will benefit the Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center in Watts,

    In 2009, the award-winning LA Weekly celebrates 30 years highlighting the people on the cutting edge of contemporary LA culture. In honor of LA Weekly’s thirty years of publishing, LA Weekend, a new annual event that presents two dynamic days celebrating the people who create LA’s culture -- live music, fashion, art, books, theatre film and more.

    Taking place April 24-25 at Nike’s Montalban Theater in the heart of Hollywood, LA Weekly’s LA Weekend will showcase some of LA’s most dynamic and colorful talent, programming cutting edge film screenings, speaker panels, art, food, fashion and book signings!

    Friday, April 24th
    7-11pm: Kevin Scanlon Art Opening featuring Portraits from LA Weekly’s Best Of People Issues
    7-11pm: Guest DJ Sets by Henry Rollins and Keith Morris
    7:30pm: Wil Wheaton reading and book signing
    9pm: An exclusive dance piece by Ryan Heffington
    9:30: Music and Video by The Human Ear Collective: featuring a performance by Geneva Jacuzzi

    Noon: Carnivore meat lovers panel moderated by Jonathan Gold including Mark Peel of Campanile and Octavio Becerra of Palate Food + Wine
