Description
In 2000, the Los Angeles City Council designated the area surrounding the Fountain Theatre as “Little Armenia." Beginning in January 2005, the community of Fountain Theatre writers went into the homes and businesses of Little Armenia to talk with and interview the citizens who live there. This fictional play reflects the lives of Armenians in Hollywood, what it means to be an immigrant in America, and how we define "home."
Based on their extensive research and interviews with the citizens of Little Armenia over a period of one year, the play focuses on three generations of Armenian Americans: teenagers, middle-aged working families, and seniors - all of whom struggle to stay connected to their roots and culture while attempting to assimilate into contemporary American society. Their stories capture the spirit, conflicts, music, language and day-to-day lives of one of Los Angeles' most unique communities.
Commissioned by the Fountain Theatre this world-premiere production, "Little Armenia," was created by a trio of award winning plawrights: Lory Bedikian, Aram Kouyoumdjian and Shahe Mankerian.
