Eagles tribute band Windborne will team up with the orchestra to provide stirring and soaring interpretations of hit songs like "Take it Easy" and "Hotel California." The program also features an 80th-birthday tribute to celebrated film composer John Williams, patriotic favorites and a salute to the U.S. armed forces. Karina Gauvin, soprano
Dvorak: Nocturne in B major, Op. 40
Britten: Les illuminations
Britten: Now sleeps the crimson petal
Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major
Jim Morrison shared a unique creative idol with Benjamin Britten: the infamous French poet Arthur Rimbaud. In Britten’s evocative Les illuminations, Karina Gauvin brings the luscious words of Rimbaud to vivid life, demonstrating the passion France’s enfant terrible still inspires. This night of sweeping imagery also showcases Gauvin’s “warmly supple soprano” (The Times, London) in Britten’s interpretation of Tennyson’s Now sleeps the crimson petal.
Bookended by a Dvorak orchestral gem and Beethoven’s dramatic “Eroica” Symphony, the landmark work that ushered in the Romantic period, the program beckons you to surrender to an evening of passion and reflection.
The concert is part of the nationwide Mutual Inspirations Festival presented by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in honor of the 170th birthday of composer Antonin Dvorak and the international Daniel Pearl World Music Days.
