Before the intermission the second choral song was amazing. The other non-premier songs were also a pleasure to listen to.

There were three premiers of music in this show. I'm sure there was a lot of effort put into the production of these three pieces but while they had moments they are mostly forgettable. The last song was composed by a young Julliard graduate and it had the feeling of a school assignment that went on too long and was uninspiring. Forgettable. It's nice the Master Chorale tries new music, without they they'll never discover something that will be heard into the next century.

Description

The Walt Disney Concert Hall pipe organ has 6,134 pipes ranging in size from a pencil to a telephone pole! With a dynamic range for whispering pianississimos to breathtaking fortississimos, this extravagant concert ebbs and flows in waves of sound--cresting with the magnitude of full chorus and organ in Arvo Part's De Profundis, and retreating with intimate moments of a cappella reflection with Bruckner motets. The fresh poetic landscapes of the West Coast premiere of musical wunderkind Nico Muhly's Expecting the Main Things from You, for organ and string quartet, and the world premiere of Dream Variations by Andrea Clearfield, written for and performed by the Debussy Trio and organ, will transport the audience from the quietest pause to the grandest flourish. It promises to amaze and inspire.
