Talkin' Broadway calls it "high-octane entertainment." This off-Broadway sensation is the inspiring story of five dreamy small-town holy boys -- Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham -- trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time. The fictitious Christian boy band is on the last night of their "Raise the Praise" tour in the Big Apple, and they're pulling out all the stops. With angelic voices, tight harmonies, irreverent humor and sinfully spectacular choreography, they joyously deliver a message about the power of faith, friendship and brotherhood that rocks the masses. Altar Boyz, with book by Kevin Del Aguila and music and lyrics by Gary Adler & Michael Patrick Walker, won the Outer Critics Circle Award and was nominated for a slew of other awards during its run from 2005-2010. Very cute short musical...explored all the ups and downs of relationships in 90 minutes. A little schmaltzy. There were 6 players 3 men and 3 women. I especially enjoyed the women. The men were good to but they seemed to be having a contest on who could sing the loudest. This was a very small theater where a normal voice could be heard easily. It sometimes seemed they were shouting their parts which is why I only gave in a 4 star.
