This stirring and passionate theater production by Arthur Giron is set within the context of a controversial Catholic convent that was established outside the gates of Auschwitz in the 1980s. Based on the true story of Edith Stein, who was martyred at Auschwitz, this is a gripping play about the power of faith, family, religious tolerance, mutual respect and the remarkable triumph of the human spirit. Stein was a prominent Jewish intellectual in Germany during the lead-up to Hitler's reign of terror who eventually converted to Catholicism and left the world behind to devote her life to prayer for the Jewish people and her nation in the midst of the Nazi horrors. But life in the convent would not last for long. This play tells the story of Stein's heroic struggle and the stand she took against the greatest evil of her time. Learn More

I loved this show. It was like watching Boogie Nights the musical. A production with a limited budget like this one is going to have some issues, but overall the experience was incredible. Katrina Lenk as Linda Lovelace was awesome, she kept it real and delivered a complete performance that filled in the emotional spaces where the libretto was thin. The show can get a little blue, but manages to be sexy in a seedy way while still delivering a morality tale. Its a fine line, but they succeed marvelously. Go see this before it goes to ny or vegas.Written on Feb 09 2009

Let me start by stating that I’m not a fan of musicals, but for some reason I’m a fan of these rock opera style musicals. Perhaps it’s the loud, pulsing, hard driving, beautiful rock sound that fills the theater. Maybe it’s the near perfect vocal performance from the entire cast. And in this case, it could be the interesting and tastefully done story of a tragic historical figure everyone remembers. Whatever the reason, I loved this show. Don’t walk, run to this show. You will not regret it. Yes, it’s that good!Written on Mar 23 2009

Certainly "Lovelace" is an interesting piece of theater and certainly the subject matter is interesting, but interesting does not a good theater piece make.Written on Feb 23 2009
The music is rather stale. When it isn't sounding "Spring Awakening" in nature it just sounds loud. In a small auditorium like that there is no need to set the volume as if you were performing at Staples Center.
The chorus work was quite good, while some of the lead performers had pitch problems the whole evening.........
It was okay, and an interesting piece to see, but there is much better theater available in Los Angeles and on the Goldstar site.

Knowing from a past experience , I knew I was going to enjoy the proformance of the lead role . She (actor that plays Linda Lovelace) is fantactic and allowed me to be drawn in to the "Miss Lovelace's" moral plight. The stage show is wonderfully written but beware the content is depressing and I thought for moments of time the the score would lighten up and give some comic relief , but it didn't. The story forged on with strength and boldness and gave a bottom line answer to the fate of this "Famous Porn Legend" I would recommend the play for watching the exceptional proformance but I would hesitant to recommend for a night out event.Written on Dec 10 2008

More Information About Lovelace
Description
On June 12, 1972, Deep Throat made its debut, becoming the first main stream pornographic movie. The country’s elite, from Truman Capote to Jackie Kennedy to Johnny Carson flocked to theater to see this history making film. Its star, Linda Lovelace became a sensation, counting Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson as her fans. By all accounts, at the time, she was on top of the world. A sexually liberated woman taking full advantage of the sexual revolution. But, just a few years later, she was telling a different story. One of abuse and imprisonment at the hands of her husband Chuck Traynor. She was embraced by the feminist movement and its anti-porn crusade., becoming one of their premier spokeswomen, even going on to speak numerous times in front of the U.S Senate.
