Great performance. Love the large band. Jazz, blues, country, gospel, folk, bluegrass, they covered it all. The Greek has excellent acoustics, much better than the Bowl.

My husband and I had such an excellent time at the Greek for this show. We heard Lyle Lovett here many, many years ago with Ricki Lee Jones. He is incredible with his rich, soulful lyrics and delivery, and his Large Band was also amazing.
Our seats were way up near the top, so we moved down a section after M. Peyroux's opening set (she was quite enjoyable, too). There were a lot of empty seats, and I was glad the usher didn't hassle us for moving closer.
I just wish we could have booked a table and a bottle of wine. Next time!

Lyle is a warm and friendly, funny guy. The songs were cool and his band was terrific. We especially appreciated the quartet (forgot their name) and in particular Francine Reed. Wow!

We love Lyle Lovett and this is the fourth time we have caught his show. He, his super talented band (missed the horns), and his excellent singers were all terrific, as usual. Was waiting for Fiona but she didn't make it this time. His show encompasses so many styles and moods and his comments always humorous and pithy.
However, this time we actually went to see Madeleine Peryoux. We are big fans of her and have been waiting a long time to see her.
Too bad the show did not start at 8:00 p.m. which we are used to. Coming from a distance, we left on time, but the freeways were against us and by the time we went to will-call and were seated we missed three of her songs...heard them from the outside. In any event, after being seated and wiping our tears away, we inhaled the rest of her songs with joy. She is one of the best and we will have to catch her again under better circumstances.
If you are still reading this, I apologize for rambling.

Madeleine Payroux was incredible. Although she opened to virtually an empty orchestra section, by her midway point, the place was packed. She was very appreciative of the crowd and she received a standing ovation.
Lovett was interesting for awhile, but after his black, doowop, back-up singers departed, he got boring. Good rhythms got redundant with repetitive lyrics and songs that lasted forever.

The Lyle Lovett show was an absolute treat! One of the best concerts I've been to in a while. The seats weren't bad for the price we paid and it was lovely being outdoors at the Greek. I would definitely book through Goldstar again for another performance there.

This was probably the best all-around concert we have ever attended. The music was pure, the voices were outstanding, and Lyle Lovett's humor was truly infectious and wonderful. There were four in our group and we all went away happy with the experience. His opening act was also very good and added to the evening. She was a new performer to all four of us.

The concert was fantastic!!!!!! I highly recommend seeing Lyle Lovett perform, he has a great voice, amazing "large" band and wonderful sense of humor! Picking up the tickets at will call at The Greek Theatre was a breeze. Super easy.
Lyle's opening musician, Madeleine Peyroux, was awesome! Great voice. The whole night was perfect.

This was a fabulous concert. Mr. Lovett has a knack for making you relax and laugh. I especially liked how he gave credit to people in his band for songs they'd written. He shares the glory. After a standing ovation, he came back and they sang two or three more songs. I was very happy with this concert.

Lyle Lovett is great. First time seeing him, and he is talented, funny, quirky, and entertaining. The band is first rate, and his concert is like a mini music festical since they do songs in styles that are country, blues, gospel, bluegrass, crooning, with some jazz and rock thrown in. I could have easily said "loved it" but the song choices weren't enough of what I knew and loved.

My girlfriend asked me to take her to the event which was my first Lyle Lovett concert, although she had seen him before and is a big fan. It was a wonderful from beginning to end and I quickly became a fan myself. Great music, great humor,(with a great companion!) - a really fun evening.

Arrived early to have some drinks before the show, next time we will bring a picnic, not at lot of choices for eats. Seats great for the price, our neighbors to the left wanted to sing every song out of key to the left they wanted to clap every song with no rhythm and behind us they wanted to get totally wasted on pot in front 2 guys with big heads and big hats.
Lyle was absolutely adorable, he was very relaxed and jovial so glad we put up with the heathens around us. People need to get out more.

Had a great time with great seats. Really, it is hard to find a bad seat at the Greek. While the $15 parking fee caught us a bit off guard, we still parked in a great spot, and we able to exit without too much trouble. The evening was full of a great opening act, and an almost full moon rising over stage right of Lyle Lovett and His Large Band. All in all a beautiful evening at a beautiful venue.

My husband and I throughly enjoyed this concert! Neither of us were very familiar with Lyle Lovett. We really went to see M. Peyroux, who we both enjoy. Were we ever surprised by the Large Band!! It was fun, with different types of music, and some really fun songs! The back-up singers were awesome and really added to the whole experience. I would definetly recommend this event!

I'd fogotten how good Lovett is in concert. A great show, very much enjoyed by both the old time Lovett fans in our ground and by the folks who'd just come along (in fact, I think they enjoyed it more). Wry sense of humor and good music.

This was my first - back at the Greek in twenty five years, first time to see Lyle Lovett and Peyroux live. Both were great! I will have to come back to the Greek Theatre more often. It is a better venue than HOllywood Bowl. Getting there was easy and parking was no problem. I was assigned a very good seat but it was very full in our row so we decided to move up to the top to have more elbow room. Lots of empty seats were available.

One of the best shows I have seen and I have worked in the business for over thirty years.
The seats, well to be honest, they were terrible and I found out that they were not upgradable. I had terrible seats for wicked as well. Twice burned and will not have it happen again. So thanks for the experience but in any venue larger than a postal stamp I will not use you again.

Lyle Lovett is a fantastic performer. His Large Band was perfectly showcased at the Greek and sounded incredible. Even though we were at the back of the B section, you could see pretty well and the sound was amazing. But for the guys behind us stinking up the area with pot, it was a lovely experience.

To quote Penthouse Forum; I never thought it would happen to me.
Our Goldstar tickets were in the 'adjusted' last row center (the actual rear ten or so rows were blocked off by some green camouflage so as to look less vacant). During the second song, my wife and I were standing, since there was no one behind us, and surrendering to the distance of our view in favor of a good time. I was suddenly tapped on the shoulder by an usher who asked how many were in my party - there were four of us - and would we like to move up front. Duh. We ended up in Section A, Row A!!! It was just amazing!
Lyle Lovett has changed the line up of his Large Band, keeping it suitably large at nine + Lyle + four awesome back up singers, but has replaced the horns with strings of various kinds. The result is an amazingly impactful, rich sound that can rise to epic anthems and pair down to bluegrass quartettes. His set list was beautifully thought out drove the evening up and down the breezy, Austin hills of rhythms and beats. His patter between songs was, as expected, witty, charming and self effacing.
This was our third time spending an evening with Lyle and the Band and we expect their will be many more.

Lyle is awesome. Loved his personality, his musicians, his choir. Everyone on stage seems to genuinely enjoy themselves and it shows in their performance. Lots of soul and sincerity in his music. I would highly recommend his show to everyone, even those unfamiliar with his music. I took my girlfriend who didn't know anything about him and she walked out a fan!

XLNT performance!! Saw him on New Year's Eve a couple years ago at Walt Disney Concert Hall and he was great, but he was even better on 8/7/09 at the Greek. The show lasted approx. 2 hours, and it remained very entertaining throughout. Lyle blends a lot of subtle humor throughout the performance(s), and is very much a part of his "Large Band". We would see him again in a heartbeat!

Top Useful Tips
Tips are provided by Goldstar members and Ned-Greek. Goldstar is not responsible for their content or accuracy.
Dress
- Make sure you bring a sweater for evening performance (even during summer)...it gets cold.
- Yes, and for people who get cold easily, esp. women, maybe even a jacket too
- It gets cooler than you think so bring layers
Parking And Transportation
- Stacked parking was not that bad; exit was very orderly and fast
- Getting there early (and having a picnic?) will probably get you out faster, after the show.
- "Stacked" parking is a pain, especially @ $15! Parking spaces are better, even if more $$$
Food And Drinks
- Bring your own picnic and eat before you enter theater.
- Eat first, drink first, but a showtime drink, save a few bucks
- They have decent burgers, dogs, chicken tenders for reasonable "venue" prices (i.e $6-10 each)
Other
- Always dress appropriately (weather-wise) for the Greek; it definitely gets cold in the evenings.
- Wheel chair access is one of the best I have experienced.

No one writes songs like Lyle Lovett. Finely wrought and full of wit, wisdom and Texas-sized storytelling, the veteran singer/songwriter’s catalog is rife with characters and concepts that loom large on the American landscape.
Lyle Lovett is a four time Grammy winner and has led a remarkable career which includes 13 albums and over four million records sold. His music uniquely intersects an array of genres from country and folk to bigband swing and traditional pop as evidenced by such revered albums as Lyle Lovett, Pontiac, Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Joshua Judges Ruth and The Road To Ensenada. It’s Not Big It’s Large, Lovett’s latest collection, has been one of the most acclaimed efforts of his career. The album contains big, contemporary themes, but it is Lovett’s gift to make the deep thoughts slide down like honey. USA Today heralded his “Texas-sized cowboy jazz,” as the Wall Street Journal declared Lovett has “been widening the reach of country music for over 20 years,” while praising the “dozen new tracks that touch on country and folk as well as blues jazz and gospel.” The memorable songs include “I Will Rise Up/Ain’t No Cane,” the poignant “South Texas Girl,” the infectious, upbeat “Up in Indiana.” and the rueful ballad “Don’t Cry a Tear.”
Madeleine Peyroux has gone from performing on the streets of Paris to headlining her own shows. Along the way, she has received critical
acclaim for her kittenish voice and behind-the-beat phrasing that both
echoes and reinterprets jazz and blues greats Billie Holiday, Bessie
Smith and Ma Rainey.
