Lyle Lovett was fantastic. Leo Kotke was a bonus, along with Was/Was Not and the 1st Church of God Choir. Really a great show. Great seats, great acoustic. Beautiful theater. I didn't notice the event til Friday and am so glad I did. Bravo!

Lyle and his Large Band are great in most any ole' venue, but the Orpheum is extra special. If you have a chance to see a show there, hop on it! You won't be disappointed by the grandeur and intimacy of this Angeleno gem.

The acoustics in the balcony of this gorgeous theatre were not the best, but we still got good value for the Goldstar price of the tickets.

All told, this was a fun show and the discount was great!
First time at the Orpheum - beautiful theater but the seats we had in the balcony were SMALL. I am 5'7" and my knees touched the seat in front of me. For my 6'5" boyfriend, the seats were really uncomfortable. There was just nowhere for him to go.

Interesting, well crafted performance in a fantastic old theatre. We drove up from San Diego to attend, and it was worth the trip.

I didn't know who the opening act was & when I finally realized that it was Leo Kotke...wow! He was great! and Lyle Lovett & his large band? Well, they were awesome as usual! Loved the choir, loved the back-up singers & loved Lyle's dry sense of humor. All around great show!

The band seemed to overpower him vocally and don't know what was up with his microphone. It sounded so tinny. We sat in the balcony so not sure if the sound was any better on the main floor. It was a disappointment not to be able to understand the lyrics most of the time since that's what I enjoy so much about his music. The other problem is that the seats aren't offset, so if some one large sits in front of you, or even two rows ahead, your view is cut off. We were raving about what great seats we had in the center until someone sat in front of us. My friend said she had attended another concert there and the sound was fine, so maybe it was just a problem with the sound mixer.

I had seats in the balcony. I could not here the words therefor lost the meaning of the songs. It really takes away a lot from the song if you can not here the words.

Absolutely fantastic! Non-stop fine performances from everyone. One of the best shows we've seen (and we live in a large city with lots of top entertainment offerings.) All four in our party agree--outstanding!

Lyle Lovett and his Large Band put on a GREAT show as always! It was great to see them in a smaller venue. Lyle knows how to put on a great show, which is why I've seen him every year for the past 7 years. A perfect evening.

Great venue - small enough that there wasn't a bad seat but "grand" enough to have a wonderful staged presence and good acoustics. Beautiful architecture as well.
Lyle Lovett and his "Huge Band" were amazing. THey sounded great and were wonderful performers. I especially loved the background singers who added a lot of dimension to the show.

More Details
Lyle Lovett has been one of the most distinctive and original singer/songwriters to emerge during the '80s. Though he was initially labeled as a country singer, the tag never quite fit. Lovett had more in common with '70s singer/songwriters like Guy Clark, Jesse Winchester, Randy Newman and Townes Van Zandt, combining a talent for incisive, witty lyrical detail with an eclectic array of music, ranging from country and folk to big-band swing and traditional pop.
Lovett's literate, multi-layered songs stood out among the formulaic Nashville hit singles of the late '80s as well as the new traditionalists who were beginning to take over country music. Drawing from alternative country and rock fans, Lovett quickly built up a cult following which began to spill over into the mainstream with his second album, 1988's Pontiac. Following Pontiac, his reputation as a songwriter and musician continued to grow, and he sustained a dedicated cult following throughout the '90s.
Lyle Lovett and his Large Band's latest collection, It's Not Big It's Large, was released in 2007.
