LA Opera presents the company premiere of Verdi's masterpiece, Simon Boccanegra, starring the legendary Placido Domingo. Domingo's interpretation of one of the most complex characters in opera is complemented by conductor James Conlon, internationally recognized as a master with Verdi, and rounded out by a top-rate cast. The opera itself is an epic tale of ambition and betrayal spanning two generations. The poignancy of Verdi's score truly shines in the heartwrenching scenes between father and daughter, who exemplify the ideals of familial love and loyalty. Learn More

It was a nice afternoon, the food came out too slow...The subtitles were too small to read and on the edges of the projector they were too blury... Good orchestra and cast...Written on Jun 15 2009

Well, wow. What can I say?! It was like I was at a bad Italian wedding! The food was VERY VERY good!!! and thankfully, they let me eat because I was an hour and a half late! I didn't understand the timing based on Goldstars instructions... my fault. After the meal, and the lovely people I was crammed next to, the performance started!Written on Jun 15 2009
It was on the stage at the Catholic school. They performed where the first grade did "Singing in the rain!" (which was probably better!) The artists were good, I shouldn't have expected much for the price but my favorite part after my immediate nap, (thank the nona's that made the pasta sauce) the man a few in front of me was chuckling and trying to hold in his laughter... THE VIOLIN was very off! It was disturbing and obvious! He was laughing like a child.. which was wonderful!!! :) I wish I could hug him because he changed my anger to 4th grade joy!!
After the intermission.. there was a raffle for the church (figures) and we won a wrench!! When the performance started.. we quietly left like half the other guest before us!!
wow. quite an experience.

Food was okay - service was great. Line of sight to stage was completely blocked by a pole and a videographer. Casting not so good. Acoustics - horrible. Orchestra too loud and subtitles too small to read. I have never left a show this early in - ever.Written on Jun 15 2009
