Kaleidoscope Theatre Ensemble opens its 2011-2012 season with Madman William. This serio-comic multimedia show with original music, written by Naomi Claire Wallace and directed by Kaleidoscope Artistic Director Glen S. Jimenez, calls into question whether Shakespeare's dreams inspired his work, or whether his work inspired his dreams. It's a hilarious insight into what the characters such as Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear might think about their creator. The characters convene in a modern-day London pub, discussing ways to escape their never-ending timelessness. Then Shakespeare himself arrives, and things get really interesting.

World of Theater Explored in The Fool and the Red Queen

Full Price:

In the latest comic meditation from renowned playwright Murray Mednick, The Fool and the Red Queen experiments with archetypes to explore human nature and the processes of theater. A struggling actor named Gary finds himself at a nightmarish audition where the audience discovers the magical ability of the theater to create new realities -- in this case, a darkly funny and improvised play-within-a-play similar to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Marie and Bruce. Driven by poetic impulse rather than linear storytelling, The Fool and the Red Queen is a ruefully funny, lyrical look at the theater and the natural elements that drive us all. Learn More

I wish I could give this show minus points, and even a zero is being too generous. So 1 it is !! ABSOLUTELY AWFUL !! Stay away !! The concept is original, but poor execution, a bad script, bad casting, bad directing, bad acting, etc, etc, etc made it even worse. I only want my 2 hours of time back in my life. And to make it worse - they sold soda & snacks to the audience - mostly kids on the night we went. The noise from the crowd was like having Shakespeare's groundlings all around, to which I can only say UGH !!

Clever play. Shakespeare enthusiasts will enjoy it. It would have benefited from better acting.

The idea for this play is a great idea, and I was looking for some great comedy. Unfortunately the play never really went anywhere. The characters really don't develop beyond complaints about their existence. The play is about an hour long, but the existing script could have been told in about 10 min. Too bad, maybe someone will take this great idea and write a better play.

About the Ticket Supplier: Kaleidoscope Theatre Ensemble

Founded in 1999, the Kaleidoscope Theatre Company is dedicated to producing "serious" comedy. We produce comedies of all types: romantic comedies, black comedies and farces - plays that seriously explore the comic perspective in the theatre. While planning to include both classic comedies and more recent revivals, we primarily work to build strong relationships with contemporary playwrights that write smart, comedic plays with insight and great humor.
