I had a chance to go this past Sunday and had a date and walking in was impressive. They have a huge space their and we were greeted and seated right away...just away from all the other tables for some reason. We were told that even though we paid in advance, that there was a mandatory 15% gratuity that would be added to our bill and drinks outside of the 1 mimosa or champagne was not included. I gritted my teeth, but what the hell, can't be cheap on a date right?
Anywhoo...the service begins with the waiter offering us water for the table...of course we agree and he never mentioned whether we wanted Flat, Sparkling or Bottled...but he showed up with a huge bottle of water...the kind of water that you get charged for at a 7-11, nightclub in Las Vegas or New Orleans if you get my drift and doesn't tell us that it cost $6.
Next, comes the fruit plate...not much to say other than it was fruit and we ate it.
Next comes the Pan Dulce....sweetbread...its cool...and thats it, no butter, no toppings...its not even warmed up...but we eat it.
We order drinks after that, drinks costs anywhere from $9-$12 and we were like...I thought this was a sunday brunch...so we order 1 drink a piece....knowing that i already paid damn near $40 before coming in the door...I start to get a little heated..but as I said...I am on a date....so I let it ride.
I order a peach margarita (don't judge me...I like fruity drinks) and my date orders a drink on the menu...in her words...tasted like Cleaning solution...it did....and my drink tasted like stale Kool-Aid from 1998....either way....drinks in hand...we power forward.
My date and I wait for our food which comes out about 20 minutes after we order. I got the shredded beef plate with scrambled eggs and potatoes and refried beans and she ordered the nacho plate with same above sides. The best thing about the meal was the portion size...really big size if you are hungry...unfortunately, everything was bland...and they offered no hot sauce, medium sauce, condiments...nada...
Ok...the meal is bland and watery...and we again...push through....
My date tells me she has to go to the restroom and the Mariachi band comes out....the band was AWESOME...by the way...and that's the high point of the whole brunch...i just wished I knew spanish so that I could enjoy it more.
Now my date comes back from the bathroom and immediately starts looking in her purse...I ask what she was looking for and she said...Purell hand sanitizer....again...I thought maybe they were out of soap in the ladies room, but apparently...and thankfully she told me this after we ate....that someone had a "mess" while on her "time of the month" and the "mess" was not cleaned up fully and it was very unclean in the ladies room.
So...we hastily decide that it was time to go....the servers are now MIA and the band is playing merrily and doing a great job at it. I also didn't mention, that while you're seated at the table..they ask to take your picture...nice gesture...until they try to sell you the picture (frame included) for $20 to celebrate you celebrating in their video...I said no thank you and she then tried to haggle me down from $20 to $10....I was like...REALLY?...but um...no thank you....what she did with our memories...one will never know.
Finally the bill comes....its 70.00. I had to count to 10 backwards and then close my mouth and my date was laughing i think more in shock than in surprise. They deduced the 40 I already pre-paid and the meal came out to, with the 15% tip included...to $40...I made sure the bill was paid...and ran out of there fuming.
Bad service, bad food, bad drinks, bad cleaning establishments and a great band does not equal $80. They will never get my business or references there ever again...and I only hope that if you choose to make this an adventure...you most surely will not be undersold.
