The "Mary Lynn" of the title would be famed actress-comedian Mary Lynn Rajskub (pronounced Rice-Cub) who returns to the Steve Allen with her all-new one-woman show. Having just wrapped up her iconic role as 24's Chloe O'Brien, Rajskub is back with another of her patented stand-up comedy shows, which often examine her life as a wife, mother and Hollywood actress in excruciatingly funny detail.

I really, really disliked this play. Mary Lynn essentially tells her story in such a way that she makes herself incredibly unlikable. I'm really bummed too! I read all of these great reviews on Goldstar and I just thought the whole thing was awful from start to finish. I cracked a smile maybe twice. I remember looking at the faces of the people in my row (the first row) and they were all the same. By the end of the play I was rooting against her. I really liked her before this. Now I just think she's emotionally immature, kind of crazy, annoying and not particularly bright or talented.

A recent slice of Mary Lynn's life? True, partially true or untrue....who really knows for sure?

At times funny, at times choppy and disconnected, overall short enough to not be boring. Inspiring? No. Laugh out loud funny? Occasionally. Entertaining? Sometimes. Value? You bet. A live performance in a marvelous facility for the same cost as a movie with a well known star is always a bargain. Sadly, the house was only about half full.

Other than a few laugh's this show didn't really speak to me on any level. It needs a lot of tweaking, during the performance I often found myself thinking "if they did this or changed that" it would be better, funnier. This was my least favorite Goldstar experience which is not to say it was bad, it just wasn't good.

PS: A minute after the show Mary Lynn came into the lobby area of the theatre and started meeting people and chatting. A patiently placed request for a photo was not refused or granted, it was completely ignored as she looked me in the eye when I made it and then walked right by without ever acknowledging me and never looked back. All she had to do was say "I'm sorry I don't do photos". Or wait in the dressing room for ten minutes after the show ended until we had left. It was very rude and turned all of us off.

I've seen a lot of one woman shows and I was amazed at Mary Lynn's ability to switch from character to character without a single prop or costume piece. The material is a scream, but also truthful. At the end you feel like you have been on a journey with her. Awesome show.

I had read numerous reviews and knew exactly what to expect but Mary Lynn's performance seemed very uncomfortable (for her). It appeared to be forced, and over-rehearsed, she did not appear to be particularly at ease in conveying one's own life expericences ..... and these were not all that painful. We had seen Julia Sweeney in a similar type of one woman performance and her's was far more natural in its presentation of her life experiences. For Mary Lynn, it was only after it was over and she said a few impromptu words to the audience that did she open up and seem to be at ease. We really wanted to like it and the 2 stars are fairly generous.

Description

Mary Lynn Rajskub (24, Mr. Show, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is premiering her all new one-woman show! Written and performed by Mary Lynn Rajskub, directed and developed by Amit Itelman.

About the Performer:
Mary Lynn Rajskub is an American actress, artist and comedian. Rajskub's most notable role is CTU tech analyst Chloe O'Brian on 24, which she joined in 2003 at the start of the show's third season. Her character was a hit with viewers and critics and was one of the few cast members to return in the show's fourth season. After being a regular guest star for two seasons, Rajskub became a main cast member in the show's fifth season. She is now lead female, with top billing second only to Kiefer Sutherland. Rajskub and Sutherland appeared briefly as their 24 characters in a 2007 episode, "24 Minutes", of the Fox TV animated series The Simpsons.

She became one of the original cast members of Mr. Show, and also had roles on The Larry Sanders Show, Home Movies, Veronica's Closet, the US version of The Sketch Show, NewsRadio, and 24.

She appeared in Kelsey Grammer's The Sketch Show on Fox Television, King of Queens as a character named "Priscilla", a waitress at a pirate-themed kiddie restaurant in an episode of NewsRadio ("The Secret of Management"), and in numerous films including Mysterious Skin, Legally Blonde 2, Sweet Home Alabama, Dude, Where's My Car?, Man on the Moon, Punch-Drunk Love, The Anniversary Party, Firewall, Little Miss Sunshine, music videos for Beck and Weezer, as well as portraying a blind girl in the film Road Trip.

She is also a skilled guitar player and was part of a comic duo (with Karen Kilgariff) called Girls Guitar Club. In 2006, she made a cameo appearance in "Partings", the 6th season finale of Gilmore Girls, where she played a troubadour looking for her big break.

Rajskub has volunteered as an actress with the Young Storytellers Program. She has an educational background as a painter, having attended the San Francisco Art Institute.

She has been nominated twice for a Screen Actors Guild Award; once in 2005, and again in 2007 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
