This was a great lineup, diverse crowd, and just a generally great night out. Macy was stoned out of her mind and regained consciousness about halfway through the set. KEM (though not my musical taste), a charismatic and enjoyable performer, is funny and conveys great messages to the community.Written on May 09 2011
Roberta, well... she's wonderful. Her set was a little slow, but enjoyable.

Sheila E & Macy Gray were great. Could have done without KEM and his preaching. Roberta was disappointing.Written on May 09 2011

I truly enjoyed Sheila E, Macy and KEM. I was disappointed that the show went sooooo late and that Roberta Flack sang very few songs that made her famous. We left during her set when she continued to sing songs that we never remembered. There is too much time between acts--this needs improvement!!Written on May 09 2011

Description
The 15th Annual Mercedes-Benz WAVEFEST returns to The Greek Theatre, featuring Roberta Flack, KEM, Macy Gray and now Sheila E. & the E. Family!
Internationally hailed as one of the greatest songstresses of our time, GRAMMY Award winning Roberta Flack remains unparalleled in her ability to tell a story through her music. Her songs bring insight into our lives, loves, culture and politics, while effortlessly traversing a broad musical landscape from pop to soul to folk to jazz. Roberta is currently involved with a very exciting studio venture, an interpretive album of Beatles' classics.
It has been said that his music feeds the soul, but KEM's journey is equally, if not more, inspirational. R&B Singer/Songwriter/Producer KEM's love of music began as a child. Music saw him through the darkest moments in his life, took him to the top of the industry's record charts, and earned him a record deal with Universal Motown Records. As fans await his third release, INTIMACY, hit singles from both albums continue to receive regular airplay, proving KEM is truly an artist for the ages.
At the start of 2009 and ten years into her career, Macy Gray found herself a free agent and on the verge of "The Sellout." Sure, she sold 15 million albums, scored two Grammy Awards, two MTV awards and with "I Try," had one of the most successful singles of all time, but after 2007's Big, she found herself alone, with no one to answer to but herself. Big was the slickest album of her career and she considered going even further away from the true, gritty, whiskey-voice Macy, following instead of leading. Her latest release, The Sellout (Concord Records), is a return to form for Gray, perhaps her finest album to date, but one that propels her sound forward rather than looking longingly at the past.
This will be the 7th year that the Mercedes-Benz WAVEFEST will be presented at The Greek Theater. CBS Radio Los Angeles Market Manager, Steve Carver, commented, "The Greek has been the perfect home for the Wave's featured event. Our slogan is ‘Relax and Unwind,' and what better way to do that than to spend a night under the stars listening to great music." He continued, "Reflective of the music on 94.7 The Wave, Wavefest has really grown from a ‘jazz showcase' to a more diverse event focusing on L.A.'s favorite musical artists spanning a variety of musical genres." Finally, "I want to add how thankful we are to the Mercedes-Benz Dealers of Southern California. They really do make this night possible for us."
