The classic comedy duo Cheech & Chong is reunited for a hilarious set that traffics in their trademark satire and counter-culture lifestyle. Also on the lineup, Tower of Power has been playing its brand of Oakland-style funk for more than 40 years, with powerful horns highlighting jams like "You're Still A Young Man" and "What is Hip?" Written on Oct 11 2011Great show, being in the presence of legends. The audience was mature and reverent. When Kris Kristofferson sang Why Me Lord, it felt like church.
Written on Oct 11 2011Great show!!!
Written on Oct 10 2011Merle and Kris were excellent. They were both on the stage during the entire show and they had great chemistry. Merle ribbed Kris for being a hippie, and twice stopped songs to give them "mellower" lyrics. He was pretty darned funny.
It was sad to see that about a fourth of the seats were unsold, and covered with camouflage netting.
Written on Oct 10 2011Really enjoyed the show.
Written on Oct 10 2011GREAT SHOW! ENJOYED ALL OF IT. It was nice to be able to actually hear the voices of the singers.
So often the band is so loud you can't hear the words and the words were so good. I have heard the name Merle Haggard for years and never had an opportunity to hear him in person. Thanks to the Greek Theater.

Description
Over a distinguished fifty year-plus career that's taken him from a drastically misspent criminal youth to solitary confinement in San Quentin to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Merle Haggard has memorably portrayed, in song, myriad archetypal characters. Whether fugitive, troubadour, misfit or crusader, he's explored each perspective with a critical acuity, a hard-won skill that's allowed him to score no less than 40 number one country hits.
Immediately embraced by country fans, Haggard also earned the respect of his peers. In addition to the 40 #1 hits, Haggard charted scores of Top Ten songs. He has won just about every music award imaginable, both as a performer and as a songwriter and most recently acknowledged with a Kennedy Center Honor in recognition for his lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. His body of work easily places him beside Hank Williams as one of the most influential artists in country music. In 2010, Haggard released I Am What I Am, which received great reviews and this fall he will release his second Vanguard album.
Kris Kristofferson's NewWest albums mark the latest works of a distinguished career that has encompassed the authorship of such classic American songs as "Me and Bobby McGee," "Sunday Morning Coming Down," and "Help Me Make It Through the Night"; stardom in such feature films as Lonestar, the Blade Trilogy, A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid and A Star is Born; honors including three Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award; and years of outspoken political and social activism. In 2009, he received the BMI Icon Award at the performing rights organization's Country Awards. Kristofferson is currently a member of the Songwriter Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In the last decade, the now 75-year-old performer has been on a vigorous schedule of international solo appearances. In 2007 Kristofferson released his first album in 12 years, This Old Road, and in 2009, he released Closer to the Bone, both on NewWest records which garnered rave reviews.
