Quirky, touching, laugh out loud funny. Excellent cast, superbly performed. Sadly, light crowd. Helluva bargain. Go see it.Written on Aug 02 2010

An interesting script turned into an evening of mediocore theatre due to incompetant direction and uninspired acting.Written on Aug 17 2010

I have mixed feeling about this. Let me start by saying that I couldn't help but feeling somewhat misled by the picture and the description of this play. I was kind of expecting a campy little coming-out story with happy endings. This is definitely NOT.Written on Oct 03 2010
With that said, let me continue the review by saying this is one of the most quirky, weird little plays that, surprisingly, also very deeply profound. I felt uneasy with the ending, but hey, this play really tells you that life is hard (even harder when you are different), and you make the best out of it.
The cast was awesome, the stage was cute, and the lighting was effective. I hope this helps you to decide whether or not you may want to see it, but when in doubt, GO SEE IT!! You'll come out of it wiser. :)

Quotes & Highlights
- "Clearly the show is on to something. And that something is old-fashioned stuff like, you know, a funny and poignant play, inventive direction and ace acting. In the end theater isn't much more than this, and it shouldn't be any less."--New York Post
- Best Off-Off-Broadway Show, New York Press (2009)
Description
Emory is an effeminate 11-year-old boy who lives on a farm with his chain-smoking Nanna and his only friend, a depressed chicken about to be processed. Nanna wishes Emory would get his head out of the clouds, stop choreographing dance numbers, and be more like Elliot, the boy down the road with a penchant for burning things. But Emory and Elliot have a relationship -- just not one Nanna would expect or approve of. With absurd, poignant dialog and brutal characterizations, MilkMilkLemonade is a bitterly funny exploration of gender, sexuality, life, death, and the human body. Starring Andy Hirsch, Tracie Lockwood, Justin Okin, Sharron Shayne & Hollace Starr.
Joshua Conkel is a Navy brat and spent his childhood traversing the United States before settling in rural Washington State at ten. He moved to New York in 2003 to work for playwright Craig Lucas and joined The Management, a downtown theater company for whom he now serves as Artistic Director. Joshua's plays have been performed all over the country and include The Chalk Boy, I Wanna Destroy You, The Sluts of Sutton Drive, and countless shorts. He is currently working on a graphic novel for First Second Books, an imprint of Macmillan. MilkMilkLemonade was named best off-off-Broadway Show of 2009 by NY Press and is now enjoying productions all over the country, with productions in Ft. Lauderdale, Austin, Berkeley, a New York remount, and the production here at Rogue Machine.
