Minsky's is a big, new musical comedy set in a time when entertainment was about legs and laughs, and you had to push the limits to keep the customers buying tickets. It tells a rollicking backstage story, set in Prohibition-Era New York City, that peeks into a world populated by comedians, con men and seductive, sexy women.

Sondheim's Follies: Tony-Winning Broadway Hit at the Ahmanson

Full Price:
$95.00 - $110.00
Our Price:
$47.50 - $55.00

The Kennedy Center's critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Follies, currently nominated for eight 2012 Tony Awards, comes to the Ahmanson Theatre, where it's receiving equally stellar reviews. It's the haunting story of two troubled couples who reunite at the decrepit theater where the ladies once performed, facing the ghosts of the past and the harsh reality of the present. Featuring a memorable score by Sondheim, including such enduring songs as "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here," the show is also a riveting look at the deterioration of the American dream -- a crack in the plaster of the gilded age of Broadway. Director Eric Schaeffer is joined by much of his original cast -- with 41 performers, it's one of the largest ever on this stage -- as well as a 28-piece orchestra. Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark joins the production, while reprising their roles from the New York show are 2012 Tony nominees Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines. Learn More

"Minsky's" is a sweet musical very much in the style of the Thirties. The burlesque was only slightly naughty but that is part of it's old-fashioned charm. some of the dialogue was especially timely with our current recession

This show was wonderful! The music, costumes and props were terrific. Our Goldstar seats were very good. I would highly recommend this show to anyone. I was disappointed they didn't have CDs for sale since the music was fantastic, but maybe they will offer that at a later date.

A wonderful way to spend an evening. Those of us old enough to remember burlesque will be nostalgic, others will enjoy the wonderful dancing and singing.

It was what we expected. What Broadway should be, show girls, lots of music and great production values. The story was dull, but that was only a minor part of the wonderful time we had.
We hope it great success on Broadway.

Description

When times are tough and smiles are hard to come by, it’s good to know there’s still one escape where you can find an easy laugh, a pretty girl, and maybe even fall in love.

Writer Bob Martin and Director/Choreographer Casey Nicholaw  (both of The Drowsy Chaperone fame) join forces with the legendary composer  Charles Strouse (Bye Bye Birdie, Applause, Annie) and acclaimed lyricist Susan  Birkenhead (Jelly’s Last Jam) for this world premiere.
