The San Francisco Symphony and Chorus present A Summer Celebration, a star-studded concert with an eclectic program and several exciting guests. Conducted by San Francisco Symphony music director Michael Tilson Thomas and San Francisco Symphony Chorus director Ragnar Bohlin, the concert begins with Ligeti's Lux Aeterna, made famous by 2001: A Space Odyssey. Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins the Symphony to play excerpts from Ravel's jazzy Piano Concerto in G major, and Avery Fisher Prize-winning violinist Gil Shaham makes an appearance, playing the last movement of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. This delightful program also includes the fourth movement of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 and excerpts from Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific, making for a full evening of sparkling symphonic music. Written on Nov 12 2012Opera at the Music Center - wow! Hope that Goldstar can get more tickets in the future! Wonderful event!
Written on Oct 18 2012I didn't enjoy the performance and I can say I was so bored I left after the first half. There was a lot lacking. The actors/singers couldn't act, there was no interpretation in their singing. They seemed to be disconnected from each other. The scenery didn't help. It was altogether a waste of my time and money. I was very disappointed.
Written on Oct 10 2012I highly recommend this opera for all to see. I certainly understand why this esteemed opera is one of the top 10 German-Italian operas. Conlon was the conductor for the evening. He is truly gifted in his craft. Such fluidity in the notes. The actors' performance was engaging from the first aria until the last.
Our seats were the fifth row from the stage. Gold Star certainly went beyond my expectations to lend itself to our perfect family evening!
