Nightingale is a play that was written by Lynn Redgrave. She will also perform it. It was inspired by her grandmother, a woman who died more than four decades ago and was by all accounts a chilly and unlovable person. Redgrave utilized the tales about her grandmother as a starting point for the play and created a story about a fictitious woman whose true voice can only be heard at night, like a nightingale.

The ticket--an excellent seat--was a good deal. Lynn Redgrave gave a wonderful performance although the "play" she wrote was, let's say, not fully realized dramatically! Still, I think any who like fine acting will enjoy--but not be bowled over--by this.

A very enjoyable evening but I felt it could have been so much better if Lynn Redgrave had shown a more intimate side of herself. By making her grandmother a fictional character she lessened the audience's emotional involvement.
