Description
Satirical songwriter Roy Zimmerman takes George Bush's re-election personally. "Clearly, I wasn't satirical enough," he laments. "If I'd only been a tad more satirical, the darkly hilarious absurdity of the Bush administration would have been clear to even the thickest undecided voter."
Still, Zimmerman is not mourning. He's organizing. And he's bringing Roy Zimmerman's Patriot Act to West Los Angeles for two pre-inaugural performances.
Performing with satirist Andy Borowitz and other political comics in New York City's Symphony Space during the RNC, Zimmerman drew this review from the New York Times critic Stephen Holden: "Zimmerman...lifted the evening from its rut with his song, Chicken Hawk. Zimmerman's twangy delivery and his squawking and clucking ...conveyed his scorn with a contagious irreverence."
Zimmerman, creator of the mid-90s satirical band (Warner/Reprise recording artists) The Foremen, performs a compelling combination of socially conscious comedy and original music -- think Lenny Bruce meets Stephen Sondheim meets Phil Ochs! (Perhaps they have!)
Tom Lehrer himself said, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reintroducing literacy to comedy songs."
"I've probably written a thousand songs over the years," Roy reports, "on topics ranging from Medfly eradication and the Falkland Islands right up through the Patriot Act." The songs are bent decidedly to the Left. Roy's two new albums, "Homeland" and "Security" are full of such tunes, 23 originals including "Love Your Neighborhood Priest," "Saddam Shame" and a "Multinational Anthem."
