LACC Theatre Academy presents Pride and Prejudice by Helen Jerome, dramatized from Jane Austen's novel. It's an 18th century catastrophe in the making as Mrs. Bennett has five daughters to marry off. Elaborate balls, hunting parties, and courtship ensue, as each daughter makes her choice and the duel between Mr. Darcy's pride and Elizabeth's prejudice ends with a delightful compromise.

I am not a Jane Austin fan. Her novels are sleep inducing. Those Ivory type films are too precious. Seeing this play was a Hail Mary, one last try at seeing what the fans of Austin like. It worked.
This is an excellent reduction of very many words and pages into the essence of clever manners, humor and characterization. And as for the comments that it is hard for someone who has not read the book to understand - I found no problem at all. It was fast paced and witty but fully coherent. The acting was far beyond what we expect from "students" with nice timing and characterization. The Bennett parents were especially strong.
If they extend the performance, and you like excellent writing, go.

First time using Goldstar and that was great. My wife and I thouroughly enjoyed the play. It was surprisingly well done for a college production. Mr. and Mrs Bennett and Elizabeth were very good. Mr. Darcy was difficult to hear at times. That said my wife and I laughed a lot and were happy we went.
As a side note, the theatre was difficult to find, I would suggest going early in order to find it and be on time.

the event was funny entertaining my wife enjoyed it didnt expect to like it myself previously fell asleep watching movie at home love the adaptation really surprised had fun and that lady who plays the mom awesome an hilarious! great acting by all
