A really funny show. Very talented cast, fast paced action, never dull.

Enjoyable production with some above average performances. Would definitely attend productions by this company in the future.

really good, as long as you can laugh at something so tragic and awful as the blacklist and McCarthyism (and heaven help us if we lose the ability to laugh at just about anything). It was high energy all the way through, maybe dragged a little in Act II, but definitely worth a visit!

Over-the-top farce, with great acting and set design. However, it was troubling to have such a heavy-handed treatment of a serious theme. The only "fair and balanced" character was poor naive 'Mitchell'.

Pacing was too slow. It felt as though the director was brow beating the audience into thinking that lines should be laughed at, even if they weren't funny. A winking performance that was too sly and ironic, by half.

A really funny show and so well acted. Don't miss.

Charles Busch is in rare form and this cast pulls off his writing with great aplomb!

Red Scare on Sunset, by Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning playwright Charles Busch, was originally produced in 1991 by the WPA Theatre with a subsequent run Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. With its hilarious take on McCarthyism and the surrounding paranoia in Hollywood, the play is among Busch’s hilarious works that simultaneously spoof and celebrate the classic film genre.
In keeping with Busch’s original concept, the Attic Theatre production of Red Scare on Sunset will feature a man--L.A. favorite Drew Droege--playing the role of heroine Mary Dale. Droege performs at The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade and Comedy Central Stage, where he produced his solo show, Bad Education. He's been on Comedy Central's "Reno 911!" and "Halfway Home," as well as Oxygen's Campus Ladies. He's also currently starring in Matt Besser's breakdancing musical, FreakDance: The Forbidden Dirty Boogaloo, at Upright Citizens Brigade. He has impersonated Chloe Sevigny at every bar, pool hall, juke joint and speakeasy in town.
Charles Busch is the author and star of such plays as The Lady in Question, Psycho Beach Party and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, which ran five years and is one of the longest-running plays in Off-Broadway history. His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway, won the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. Busch wrote and starred in the film version of his play Die Mommie Die, which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, he received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright. Busch made his directorial debut with the film "A Very Serious Person," which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an honorable mention. He is also the subject of the documentary film "The Lady in Question Is Charles Busch." His latest play, The Third Story, will have its premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse during its 2008-2009 season.
