Two iconic American rock groups will share the stage at the Fabulous Forum this summer as Cheap Trick joins Boston for their "Heaven on Earth" tour. Known for their killer pop hooks, Boston sold millions during the '70s and '80s with their catchy version of prog rock. Their self-titled debut was one of the fastest-selling pop debuts in history, spawning three hit singles that became American classics: "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time" and "Peace of Mind." At the same time, Cheap Trick was perfecting the delicate balance between power pop and hard rock that made them a major influence on future punk, metal and alternative bands. Songs like "I Want You to Want Me," "Surrender" and "Dream Police," along with their dynamic live performances, sealed their reputation as arena rock gods. Now, 40 years into their careers, the two bands are still going strong. The "Heaven on Earth" tour is traveling the country in support of Boston's sixth studio album release, Life, Love & Hope, and this is one of a select few appearances where Cheap Trick will be performing with them. Acclaimed actress, producer, writer and Geffen Playhouse alum Rita Wilson is returning to the theater – this time to sing. For one night only, the award-winning stage and screen star will perform songs from her debut Decca Records solo album AM/FM, featuring iconic hits from the ’60s and ’70s ranging from classic love songs to folk-rock tunes. Rita Wilson AM/FM in Concert will benefit both the Geffen Playhouse and The Actors Fund, a national human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, and will be followed by a postshow wine and dessert reception.
Wilson’s new album AM/FM is a compilation of her take on her favorite songs from childhood – from the AM radio recordings she first experienced in the back seat of her parents’ car to the FM singer-songwriter jams she sung while at the wheel herself – and features guest artists Chris Cornell, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne and Faith Hill, among others.
