Ruth Draper was a pioneering actress in the early 20th century, taking the stage with only a chair, table and shawl as her props and transforming into myriad characters during her monologues. Now Academy Award-nominated actress Annette Bening is stepping into Draper's shoes and performing some of her most famous monologues, including The Italian Lesson, Doctors and Diets and A Debutante at a Dance. Bening is known for her roles in American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right, Mars Attacks and Running with Scissors. Now you can watch her play a harried society woman, debutante and etiquette instructor all in one night of Ruth Draper's Monologues. Learn More
Reviews & Ratings
Acclaimed actress, producer, writer and Geffen Playhouse alum Rita Wilson is returning to the theater – this time to sing. For one night only, the award-winning stage and screen star will perform songs from her debut Decca Records solo album AM/FM, featuring iconic hits from the ’60s and ’70s ranging from classic love songs to folk-rock tunes. Rita Wilson AM/FM in Concert will benefit both the Geffen Playhouse and The Actors Fund, a national human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, and will be followed by a postshow wine and dessert reception.
Wilson’s new album AM/FM is a compilation of her take on her favorite songs from childhood – from the AM radio recordings she first experienced in the back seat of her parents’ car to the FM singer-songwriter jams she sung while at the wheel herself – and features guest artists Chris Cornell, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Webb, Jackson Browne and Faith Hill, among others.
