This is so much fun. Parents do bring kids, but I would hardly call this a family education event. My wife and I didn't take children, we just enjoyed the humor and sense of nostalgia that School House Rock presents.

The cast is incredibly talented, they were great singers and very enthusiastic, they should be very proud of the work they are doing.

Now this was a FUN show! A walk down memory lane with great performances. The plot is iffy, but who cared! FUN music, FUN singing, FUN dancing and it brought a childhood favorite into real life. Why do they wait to advertise on Goldstar when there is only one week left? I'll never be able to figure that out. If you can see it next weekend, do it. You don't have to know what SHR is in order to love it, trust me.

My family (kids age 4 and 7) and I really enjoyed it. The only thing I will say is that it got a tiny bit long, since they don't have an intermission. Good singing and dancing.

Great songs and production. Not as entertaining as School House Rock Live! (the original) since the songs weren't as familiar. However, I knew them since I'd purchased the 30th anniversary DVD for my classroom. It's great that they encourage you to sing along!

My 3 year old, 7 year old, and 14 year old daughters absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! And I loved it too! They are begging me to see it again! The kids recognized every song, and the two older ones sang along. My little one loved the rockin' band and all of the costumes. At some points during the show, the kids were actually laughing out loud. The actors all have wonderful voices and the production values are excellent. I can't say enough good things about this production. You will not be disappointed!

WE LOVED THIS SHOW! Roller skates, hula hoops, juggling, the kids went crazy and I grew up with these songs. The kids went with a group and I bought an extra ticket for my husband and was it worth it! Finally a show I loved AND my husband and kids loved! We're going back for sure!

I took my husband and two kids (ages 6&11) for our Fathers Day excursion. We all had a fun time and really enjoyed the music, performers and production. We would recommend this show to anyone who digs the School House Rocks DVD and suggest you watch it before going to see the show to get reacquainted with the numbers.

Loved it. High energy and enthusiastic. Great for adults and children. My 8-year-old son was totally caught up in the action. He sang the songs all the way home! We'll be back for "Schoolhouse Rock Live: 3D!".

Sour notes: I understood "the look", but wasn't thrilled that the supporting cast was smoking in the background.
At the beginning, the band overpowered the singers. It got better later.

I really enjoyed the show...Jayme Lake is adorable as well as amazingly talented. Harley Jay was great, too! The whole cast did a fine job. My only objections are that I felt it a bit too long, and I really did not think that smoking was appropriate for a show that kids are going to see, especially in a "cool" type context! Parents take note.

OMG such a fun show. high energy, fun cast, great vocals, fun staging, excellent music too! This is a great family show, great for the kids and fun for adults too. Something for everybody. Lisa Tharps steals the show, her torch song version of "Naughty Number Nine" is brilliant! The Greenway Court Theatre is a really great little venue. This show is well worth seeing and has a little bit of info and message without beating the audience over the head with it. SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Great fun for my 7-year-old and I. I'd actually recommend it for kids of all ages, especially the mid-range elementary age crowd, because there's a lot of multiplication songs, which will "click" more for that age range. The singers were very talented, especially the women. Clever and engaging, and a blast from the past, too! The venue is small, so every seat is a good one. Highly recommended!

Fun. Lots of energy. My 3 year old was dancing in the area if front of her seat during all the up-beat songs. She even caught the eye of one of the actors! Had a great time!

A great family fun time!!! I think I enjoyed it more than my daughter, since I knew ALL of the songs. It was great seeing the cast totally get into the meaning of the song and then remind the kids to stay in school. One of the better performances I've been to for children!

The actors were terrific... great voices and great energy. However unless you have kids who are under thirteen, or you are under thirteen, or you know the tv show extremely well, it really isn't a show for adults. If it weren't for the quality of actors holding our attention and gaining our respect, it would not have been a particularly worthwhile evening.

Having grown up on the classic tunes from Schoolhouse Rock & now having two kids of my own, it was a blast to see this uber-creative production. You can't stop smiling through the whole show. My kids (ages 3 & 5) LOVED it, too! The actors are so engaging and even interact with the audience when they can. (This was our second time seeing it.) What a great way to pass on the awesome fun & educational lessons of Schoolhouse Rock to the next generation!

My 9 and 12 year old grandsons loved it. They watch all the reruns so they were familiar with most all of the songs. They told their parents in detail about all the songs that were included and the new story line and said it was "cool". It clearly made quite an impression. I have seen several of Rick Sparks plays at the Greenway and elsewhere, and, as usual, he did a great job in directing and choreography. Without hesitation I recommend this to all parents and grandparents to take their kids.

Extremely energetic cast and great music. Completely baffling to our entire family. Admittedly we are not well versed in Schoolhouse Rock, but I'd hoped that even to someone who can't recite all the verses of Conjunction Junction it would make some sense (I mean, even Schoolhouse Rock was originally seen by children who had never seen Schoolhouse Rock before, and they apparently liked it.) I won't say we had a bad time, but we really didn't have any clue what was going on, what would happen next, or whether there was any kind of plot here. All I could think was how fantastic this ensemble would be if they had an actual storyline and some characters to work with! That said, there were some great musical numbers, even if they were about such random topics as how the body works or the passage of a bill into law, things that made absolutely no sense much of the time to my 5 and 8 year old (and it was too loud to lean over and explain things to them, and it was pretty nonstop and no intermission, so they had to sink or swim on their own.) I'm not sure if they enjoyed it, or if they just took it as one of those things that came crashing past them on their way between lunch and dinner... Go in prepared for a great degree of randomness, no real story, and just enjoy the production staging and enthusiastic singing. I think this production really highlights the problem with the genre of building shows out of songs (Mama Mia etc) rather than letting a story become fleshed out with organic musical numbers. It feels like rock hopping across a stream -- wow, we found a place to land on a song about the number Six! And somehow we want to get to a song about Electricity...hmm, that's a stretch, can we do it?

West Coast professional premiere of a musical based on the classic 1970s TV show.

Back in 2007, Greenway Arts Alliance scored a huge success with its production of Schoolhouse Rock Live!, a musical revue based on the classic 1970s TV series. The production achieved critical acclaim and ran for months.

The show has a sequel of sorts, more plot driven and a lot more immediately relevant than the original, but with plenty of music and dancing and a live three-piece band on stage.

Tom, the new school teacher is back. Times are tough, and the economy is depressed. There’s a diner where Tom likes to eat, but business is worse than awful, and if things don’t improve soon, the bank will foreclose on the diner. It will shut down, Tom’s new friends will be out of work, and there will be no more friendly neighborhood place to hang out and chow down.

Fortunately, Everything I Need To Know In Life I Learned From Watching Schoolhouse Rock. Equipped with the motivation and knowledge contained in Schoolhouse Rock songs, Tom rallies his pals Cookie, Rebecca, Nina, Julie and Lucky with a scheme to save the diner in time before disaster strikes.

Twenty or so bouncy musical numbers are guaranteed to make hands clap and toes tap, among them “Naughty Number Nine,” “Them Not-So-Dry Bones,” “I Got Six,” “Tax Man Max,” along with the old favorites “Interjections,” “I’m Just a Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,”and so much more.

Rick Sparks directs. He has a long-established reputation as one of L.A’s favorite directors of musicals and comedies. He is also a writer, producer, actor and sound designer. His many credits include “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “A Charlie Brown Commercial Christmas” (all for Greenway), “Don’t Talk To The Actors” (recently at Laguna Playhouse), “Divorce ! The Musical” (a unanimous Critic’s Pick upgraded to an Equity Contract run at the Hudson and still running indefinitely), and much more. He has twice won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Direction.

His cast for “Schoolhouse Rock Live Too!” includes Harley Jay (of the Broadway and National Touring companies of “Rent”), Jayme Lake, (“Songs For The New World” at the Rubicon), Lisa Tharps, (star of “Medea” at the Boston Court), Tricia Kelly (“Beehive” at the El Portal), Michael Lopez (“The 99 Cent Show” at the Bootleg) , Brian Wesley Turner (“West Side Story” at Bucks County Playhouse) and Kelly Meyersfield (“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” at Repertory East).

Lighting design: Jeremy Pivnick. While the show will naturally appeal to and is eminently suitable for kids and tweens, Schoolhouse Rock Live Too! will charm adult audiences including musical theatre buffs, boomers with a nostalgic attachment to the original TV series, young hipsters attracted to the show’s retro appeal, and theatre patrons who just want a singing, dancing good time.
