Los Angeles' first large-scale, multimedia pop culture convention invades the Southland again after a successful inaugural year, celebrating the best in comic books, anime, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, horror and more. Brought to you by Marvel's legendary comic creator Stan Lee and the iconic Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the second-annual show salutes special guest Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn. Also scheduled to appear are actors Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk) and Tara Strong (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic); artist-creators Marc Silvestri (Witchblade); Camilla d'Errico; Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim) and dozens of others. Comikaze is also set to include game tournaments; a Nickelodeon Salute Your Shorts reunion; tons of celebrity signing tables and vendors who will be showcasing and selling their collectible wares. So head downtown and let your geek flag fly at the only cross-genre event of its kind in L.A.

It's a long way from the San Diego comic con but it was an honest effort. The best part was seeing all the costumes. LA had no trouble drawing an enthusiastic crowd into this event. The vendor booths were a bit disorganized and we finished strolling through the entire thing in 1.5 hours while expecting to be there all day. Overall, it was worth the stroll.

This was a fun comic book convention. There were lots of exhibitors, but it was a little short on comic book vendors. Not a lot of panels either, but the exhibit floor was cool. My main recommendation for next year would be to add more signs showing where to go from your car (you had to park in a different lot than the convention was being held in) and to have more signs leading to where to pick up tickets. That was by far the biggest hassle. No crowd control and no clear designation of where to pick up your ticket if you had bought it on Goldstar, or some other ticketing agency. Other than that, it was a fun, local alternative to Comic-con. Just needed more comic book vendors.

About the Ticket Supplier: Comikaze Expo Inc

Comikaze Expo is the brainchild of siblings Regina and Mario Carpinelli, who grew up in Southern California. Since childhood, they've been immersed in a world of comics, gaming, horror, sci-fi, fantasy and anime. With the help of close friends Klaus Moeller and Shelle Mannion, big comic fans themselves, this collective of family and friends created the event that has always been missing from the city of Los Angeles.

Comikaze is unlike any other comic-related event in the US. Having spent much time researching both local and national conventions in the United States, the Comikaze Team crafted an event that will thrill and excite even the most casual comic fan. Comikaze is a multi-tiered extravaganza created by real comic fans with deep ties to the entertainment world. While Comikaze might have a classic convention vibe, it's much more than that. The Comikaze Team did not want to make an event for industry people and hardcore fans only. Instead, they designed a more balanced event as an alternative to the standard fan convention, dedicated to the Los Angeles and geek community above all else.
