Ring in the New Year with the silk-and-diamond decadence of The Great Gatsby as Baz Lurhmann's best films spring to life during this spectacular New Year's Eve party. Begin your stylish evening with a three-course dinner, followed by a performance of the popular show For the Record: Baz Luhrmann, featuring powerhouse performers from music, stage and screen reenacting iconic scenes and songs from Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom and The Great Gatsby. After the show, Rockwell will be transformed into a Gatsby-style 1920s' retreat. Listen to live music while enjoying the delicious buffet and glass of champagne included in the ticket price. If you'd prefer to skip the seated dinner and show and commence straight to partying the night away, the VIP Party Only option takes place in Rockwell's dazzling second-floor VIP salon decorated Gatsby style, where you can enjoy the buffet, a champagne toast, a balloon drop and live music. This was such a fun event, much more organized than any food truck/movie fest I've been to, great food selection. Friends have commented it's a shady area at night, but there was plenty security and I felt completely safe to be honest. One thing to note, if you bring chairs, you need to sit on the sides. So unless you get there super early to secure a great spot on the sides up close, I'd recommend opting to sit on a blanket instead. Otherwise you'll be off to the side in the back with a possibly obstructed view.
June 29, 2013:
Film: The Breakfast Club (Rated R)
With a significant nod from the recent hit Pitch Perfect, a whole new generation of moviegoers have embraced this quintessential teen angst movie. John Hughes wrote and directed this 1980s high school drama featuring the hottest young stars of the decade. Trapped in a day-long Saturday detention in a prison-like school library are Claire, the princess (Molly Ringwald); Andrew, the jock (Emilio Estevez); John, the criminal (Judd Nelson); Brian, the brain (Anthony Michael Hall); and Allison, the basket case (Ally Sheedy). These five strangers begin the day with nothing in common, each bound to his/her place in the high school caste system. The Breakfast Club has developed an almost cult-like status.
Running Time: 1 Hour 37 Minutes
Band: Fallen Riviera (presented by The Viper Room)
Food: Belly Bombz. Canvas Food Truck, Trailer Park Truck, Slummin Gourmet, India Jones, La Frite, The Melt Bus, Umami Burger, Urban Oven, Perk Up Coffee, Waffles Deliege + more!
