Description

Adriana Sevan's acclaimed show returns to Los Angeles!

Based on a true experience, Taking Flight is a deeply compelling, funny, and sexy tale that celebrates the soul of friendship and the resilience of the human spirit. It is the unforgettable journey of two friends who struggle to overcome a tragic event that changes the world and both their lives.

Taking Flight explores the depth of friendship in the face of disaster, and the restorative power of forgiveness and redemption. In the hilarious and powerful piece, actress/writer Adriana Sevan--herself a striking and passionate Armenian/Dominican hybrid--portrays a mixed ethnic variety of several unforgettable characters: the Latina Esperanza Middleschmertz (an outrageous mixture of Carmen Miranda and Dr. Phil “in the hood”), a Haitian cab driver, a hilarious Jewish fashion maven from Long Island, and a 90-year-old sexy grandmother. In the midst of one of America’s most cataclysmic events, the diverse central characters in Taking Flight are all forced to question and confront issues of friendship, loyalty, spirituality, and love.

Adriana Sevan (Writer, Star) is a highly respected award-winning actress who has been seen in lead roles in such noted theaters as South Coast Rep (The Clean House, Anna in the Tropics), A.C.T (Stoppard's Indian Ink) in San Francisco, L.A. Theatre Works, Shakespeare & Co. (Henry V), and The Public (Two Sisters and a Piano) in New York. In 2005, she won a Best Actress award at the Denver International Film Festival for her portrayal in Patricia Johnson's critically acclaimed debut film, "King's County." On TV she has guest-starred on "Law & Order," "Sex and the City," and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." As a playwright, her work has been developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab, South Coast Repertory, and the Mark Taper Forum.

She has extensive experience developing new plays and has worked with the Sundance Theatre Lab and the Lark Play Development Center where she is an Artistic Associate. "A Weekend Celebration for Women" combined the creative and the healing arts and explored the power of women to impact the world and effect political change through their art. She received her MFA in Acting from NYU and is a graduate of their Director’s Lab. She currently teaches acting in the Department of Dance, NYU-Tisch School of the Arts, and this fall she will join the faculty of the Graduate Acting Program to teach theatre games.
