Sondheim's Follies: Tony-Winning Broadway Hit at the Ahmanson
- Full Price:
- $95.00 - $110.00
- Our Price:
- $47.50 - $55.00
The Kennedy Center's critically-acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical Follies, currently nominated for eight 2012 Tony Awards, comes to the Ahmanson Theatre, where it's receiving equally stellar reviews. It's the haunting story of two troubled couples who reunite at the decrepit theater where the ladies once performed, facing the ghosts of the past and the harsh reality of the present. Featuring a memorable score by Sondheim, including such enduring songs as "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here," the show is also a riveting look at the deterioration of the American dream -- a crack in the plaster of the gilded age of Broadway. Director Eric Schaeffer is joined by much of his original cast -- with 41 performers, it's one of the largest ever on this stage -- as well as a 28-piece orchestra. Tony Award-winner Victoria Clark joins the production, while reprising their roles from the New York show are 2012 Tony nominees Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein and Ron Raines. Learn More

If you're expecting clever British humor a la "The Commitments" or "The Full Monty" then look elsewhere. It's slow, confused and vaguely funny at times.Written on Nov 26 2007

This play was unusually slow and wordy with dialogue that was acoustically difficult to decipher. I found myself struggling to stay awake and my friends and I left after the first act.Written on Nov 23 2007

this event was colossally boring. Besides most of the humor being British in nature. . .the sound was terrible. We had an awful time understanding the actors. All in all we were sorry to have attended.Written on Nov 12 2007

The subjects discussed and the language used was repugnant, if I had known the content and the frequency of use of the F word I would not have attended.Written on Nov 23 2007

Description
The History Boys
By Alan Bennett
A hugely successful, sold-out hit at the National Theatre of Great Britain and on Broadway, this brilliant comedy follows the senior year of eight history students in the north of England as they try to crack admission to Oxford and Cambridge. Unruly, bright, talented and amusing, these boys are in natural pursuit of sex, sport and a place at a good university. Their pursuits are guided by their overeager Headmaster, a maverick teacher, and a new instructor whose mandate is to get the boys to think outside the box to get noticed. Very funny and deeply moving, The History Boys explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history, and the methods and aim of education.
Produced by special arrangement with the National Theatre of Great Britain and the producers of the original Broadway production.
