Overall, a very good show. My fiance and my daughters enjoyed it quite abit. The costuming and especially the sets were fantastic, with the utilization of Mylar stars at the finale, adding a magical radiance and a memorable ending to the evening.

Besides the Nutcracker, Cinderella is one of the most accessible full length Ballets in the lexicon, due to its familiar story, and especially the comedic element added by the shenanigans of the Step sisters. This evenings real standouts were, in fact, the L.A. Phil's performance and also the step sisters, (who are by the way in drag), whose antics kept me laughing and were, along with the sets and costumes the other 4 star components of this ballet.

First off, the company made poor utilization of the venue. Perhaps the Joffrey is used to dancing on smaller stages. At the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, the Joffrey did not make good use of the expanse of the stage and often looked cramped and almost bumping into each other.

I don't share much enthusiasm for the choreography of this piece. I'm not sure how much of Sir Fredrick Ashton's "original" choreography was used here, but I found the "modern" component took away from the evening's performance. The hand and arm movements of the Corps de Ballet were stiff and rigid, lacking the fluidity of a world class ballet. This was especially true of the principal Ballerina, whose choppy and stiff arm movements were a real distraction to me. As an avid Ballet fan who has been fortunate enough to travel to New York and be inspired by the New York City Ballet, and the choreography of George Balanchine, I was quite disappointed in the performance overall, which lacked the grace and beauty of ballet at its best. A paux de deux when executed brilliantly, leaves one breathless. This evening, the principal dancers were often uninspired, which I attributed more to the choreography than a lack of talent.

There was SO much to admire about this show, that many would forgive this aspect. While I enjoyed the show, the disjointed up body movements, were SO missing in fluidity and grace, that it kept the show and this Company's performance rating overall, at a less than four star rating. I've seen many other iterations of this company, and they most certainly can do better.

Absolutely MAGICAL! First act starts a little slow but then it just transforms into a live fairy tale. This can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their dance appreciation level....gorgeous sets and costumes. The audience gasped when Act II began...just gorgeous. Lots of cute little girls all dressed up in their ballet finest.
