SOLD OUT

Magician Rob Zabrecky is famed for his unique fusion of illusion and absurdist humor, which is on view regularly at L.A.'s legendary Magic Castle. His all-new variety show -- entitled An Evening with Rob Zabrecky: Mourning the Moon, Digital Dancing, and Witchcraft for all ages -- runs for one night only, and features highlights of that offbeat act, along with singing, dancing, audience interaction and feats of parapsychology. His special guests include Imaginary Bear (featuring Tanya Haden) and music by Liberty Larsen and Shayne Eastin. Zabrecky's career began as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and bassist for alternative Silverlake stalwarts Possum Dixon, who released three albums on Interscope Records in the 1990s, and he also boasts credits as an actor and author. I GOT THERE LATE,SO I MISSED MUCH OF WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL, BECAUSE WHAT I DID GET TO SEE WAS SO WONDERFULLY, REMINISCENT TO ME OF THE 60'S KINDS OF LOUNGE SHOWS WITH THE LIKES OF LOUIS PRIMA,AND OTHERS. wELL PLACED SKITS AND COMEDY ROUTINES THAT WERE RISQUE BUT YET REALLY ACCEPTABLE. I WILL GO AGAIN, BUT WHEN I DO I WILL BE THERE ON TIME TO GET A SEAT INSTEAD OF "STANDING ROOM ONLY"

Second time I have seen the show, which I believe changes from time to time. Great fun. Rocking band. Lots of funny folks. Highly recommended.

I actually give the show 3-1/2 stars. The packed house confirmed that Rudy Casoni and company have a dedicated following. The good: Laura Silverman, The Lampshades, the burlesque dancers, the master of ceremonies, and the seven piece band. The less than good: Overly dirty show with unfunny references to pedophilia and a truly bad taste mime portraying Roman Polanski sexual encounter with the 13-year old girl. Rudy Casoni does have a Sinatra like swagger but needs to develop more class and less obscenity in his act. Think of the show as X-rated vaudeville meets R-rated burlesque.
