Center Theatre Group's innovative new musical explores the Southern California experience over the course of several decades through the eyes of a Mexican-American man growing up in Carlsbad and a San Diego woman whose chance encounters with Mexican immigrants mark the moments that define her life. Directed by multiple Tony-nominee Graciela Daniele, Los Otros stars Tony-winner Michelle Pawk (Hollywood Arms, Hairspray, Cabaret) and Broadway veteran Julio Monge (Twelfth Night, The Capeman, Fosse). Another pair of acclaimed Tony nominees, Ellen Fitzhugh (Paper Moon, Grind) and Michael John LaChiusa (The Wild Party), crafted the book, lyrics and score, highlighted by its intimate song cycles. Amazing performance - plot, acting and execution. The intimacy of the Mark Taper Forum was perfect for this event.Written on Nov 27 2008
It helps to have some familiarity with the history surrounding the events to follow the story - if you've seen Elizabeth, or are familiar with the life of Shakespeare, you'll get it; otherwise, arrive 10min early and read the background info in the program and it should all make sense.

Costumes were good, first half of play was so boring and confusing my date and I left during the intermission.Written on Nov 15 2008

Even though we purchased the most expensive tickets available, our seats were the very last row of the theater. I suppose if we had purchased the cheaper ones, we would have sat in the lobby. At first, I was not happy about this, but later realized what a blessing it had been. We were able to sneak out without being noticed.Written on Nov 26 2008
The play takes place in England in the late 1500's. I thought my hearing was affecting my understanding of what was going on, but when I whispered to my wife that she would have to explain the play to me during intermission, she said "Let's leave now!".
There were a few laughs from the Atheists in the audience when the main character prayed to "Dog". The laughter was more an affirmation of support for the Atheist than laughing because it was funny.
