Multimedia Art Show Synesthesia Explores Process of Inspriation

Where do ideas come from? How is the artistic process born? The multimedia show Synesthesia tries to tackle those questions with a game of "creative telephone.", in which eight artists working in different genres work together to inspire each other. The first artist was asked to select a fortune cookie and given two weeks to create a piece based on the fortune. The next artist will see that creation and then must design his own pieces, and so on, until this show, which will be an evening of their work performed live, in sequence, providing a unique glimpse into the creative minds of these gifted artists. This is a fantastic show with one of the best production designs of any 99-seat equity waiver theatre I've seen. The puppets, scenery, projections, costumes and lighting are really amazing.Written on Aug 20 2008

Awesome performance! It was a brilliant adaptation of a Neil Gaiman novel! It is not very easy to capture the spirit of Neil's intricate writing but this cast truly pulled it off!The whole acting cast was amazing, and the special effects were nicely executed! It had a beautiful DIY feel that you dont get anymore without feeling underdone. I loved it!It had me pulled from the very start to the very end!So if youre a fan of Mr.Gaimans novels,or just have a love for theatre and the arts then this would be a great play for you!Written on Jul 21 2008

Description
The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch returns exclusively to Los Angeles after a successful run at Theatre/Theater in 2007 and features an updated script with new scenes and effects. The production received five honorable mentions at the 2007 Back Stage West Garland Awards.
Adapted from the best-selling graphic novel by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, Mr. Punch is a dark fable in which the innocence of childhood and the pain of adulthood collide in the oft-fragmented recesses of memory. The man's memories of his boyhood at his grandfather's seaside arcade are full of talking badgers, crocodiles, car accidents, mermaids, and murder...or could that just have been "The Punch and Judy Show"?
Collaborators Gaiman and McKean have created many best-selling pieces of literature, comics, graphic novels, and children’s books, in addition to the recent Henson Pictures film "Mirrormask."
The maverick Rogue Artists Ensemble, known for an innovative hybrid of theater traditions, puppetry and digital media called "Hyper-theater," brings a dizzying array of visual elements to Mr. Punch that will make audience members feel as though they opened up the graphic novel and wound up trapped deep inside.
Directed by Sean T. Cawelti
Puppet design by Joyce Hutter
Mask design by Pat Rubio
Music composed by Ben Phelps
