The young, talented dancers of Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre perform two of ballet's most lyrical works: Sleeping Beauty and Paquita. With a sumptuous score by Tchaikovsky, a fairy tale plot of the triumph of good over evil and classical courtly style, Sleeping Beauty is the ideal production for Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre's accomplished student dancers. Paquita is Petipa's virtuosic 1881 ballet about a young girl who saves the life of a young French officer, who himself is the target of a Spanish governor who plots to have him killed. A much-loved ballet that showcases the talents of its soloists, Paquita's choreography includes the famous Grand Pas Classique, the Pas de Trois and the Children's Mazurka. Learn More
Perez has created more than 50 dances since he moved to Southern California twenty-six years ago. His company in the 1960s and ‘70s, the Rudy Perez Dance Theater, toured through the United States, Germany and Canada. His signature solo pieces of the time, Coverage (1970), which has been part of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater repertoire, and Countdown (1964), have withstood the test of time.
