Marching toy soldiers, waltzing snowflakes, mischievous mice and Tchaikovsky's unforgettable score are quintessential hallmarks of the holidays. Celebrate the season with Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre's student production of The Nutcracker, a holiday ballet for the whole family. Featuring dancers of all ages, The Nutcracker tells the story of young Clara, who receives a gift of a wooden nutcracker doll at her parents' Christmas party. That night, she dreams her nutcracker comes to life and together they battle the wicked Mouse King and journey through an enchanted forest of snow to reach the Kingdom of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy and all her sweet subjects await them. The description for this event was much better than the actual show. If I hadn't read Goldstar's summary of what the show was SUPPOSED to be about, I would not have been able to interpret one thing in the entire show. As it was, I was hard pressed to make a correlation between the show and Goldstar's description -- it was a big stretch. In short, this dance piece was obtuse and alienating. I didn't walk away with anything other then gratitude that it was mercifully only 1 hour long. I've seen MANY theater pieces in my lifetime and this was a huge disappointment. It didn't attempt to inform or engage the audience in any way and was simply tedious.

Vestiges/Vertiges delves into the verge of time where the remains of what is no longer have already started to take place. A territory in residue of the human touch: scraps of voices, habits, objects, images trying to recover their role. It is here that the audience finds themselves already amongst these dislocated resemblances and taking part in their reassembling. Together with the performance, they cross the threshold of forgetting and enter into the lives of those fighting against their own fading presence in time. Commissioned with the cooperation of the European Union, La Compagnie Pavlov is a multi-national, multi-disciplinary performance group based in Paris, France.
