Anyone has a choice to sit down or stand. It was nice ambience, like in a lounge.

Written on Feb 22 2012It was a lot of fun. I had a feeling that this will just get bigger and bigger. I like seeing these kids in costumes but then I feel bad on my way back to my car several cars got a parking ticket. I saw these young kids getting off their car before the concert. I feel bad.
Written on Feb 21 2012Venue was cool, bands were good. Should have had food available.
Written on Feb 21 2012My friend and I were very excited for the Wizard Rock Festival since it had been billed as having an indie rock aesthetic, and we had grown up with books. We couldn't find parking so did the $10 valet and were immediately surprised at how young the crowd was. The spirit inside the event was fun, complete with "custom" Hogwarts cocktails and a beat-boxing Harry. But ultimately the bands (or were they bands? usually there was only one person was on stage at a time, and often the music was pre-recorded) fell a bit flat, and the music wasn't universal enough to sustain our interest. we stayed long enough to see the headliner start their first song, but left before the first refrain was finished.
All in all, we're glad we went and explored a previously unknown niche on Harry Potter fan-dom, but we won't be going back. Unless we make our own Wizard Rock band with our own aesthetic ;-)
Written on Feb 21 2012A lot of fun! Took my kids and they had a great time, even though there were mostly adults there. Nice crowd. Would go again!
Written on Feb 21 2012The concert and performers were awesome. Very nice theater design / atmosphere. Major problems with extremely poor sound and lighting for ALL acts. Lights weren't on performers during key times like you would expect. Worst was sound quality, some mics were not at proper volume for the ENTIRE song, some mics were in and out. Couldn't hear lots of performers at all. 5* performers, 0* to sound engineers and lighting techs. The theater should be embarassed and ashamed, needs to take corrective action immediately. Will not go to the venue again. Will gladly see the performers again.
Written on Feb 21 2012I loved the idea behind this event. Dressing in Harry Potter garb and meeting up with like-minded fans? What could be better than that? Unfortunately all of the "bands" were ear bleeding TERRIBLE, the venue was hot, and there was not a single place to sit down. Actually there were chairs and tables that were roped off and guarded by security (apparently these were higher priced tickets that did not get sold)but no one was allowed in these sections so they remained empty the ENTIRE show. Instead, we all crowded into a hot stuffy area and stood the entire time. I will give a thumbs up to the clever Harry Potter bumper stickers that they had for sale along with some house scarves. Everything else being sold was to promote the so-called "bands" that they apparently found on youtube. I wish someone had reviewed the quality of the bands before charging us to listen to them. Awful. Just awful.
Written on Feb 20 2012There were a lot of teenagers screaming and jumping around. However, the the bands that were there were amazing live. The seating in El Rey is not what I expected. There were limited tables and chairs and a lot of them were reserved for parties. There were just a lot of people standing. Overall, this was a great new experience. Two artists also sang songs inspired by the Hunger Games and Star Wars. All in all, a great time.
Written on Feb 20 2012Such a fun event with a really passionate crowd. The bar included Butter Beer and Butter Booze -- and the promotional HP items made it like a concert/marketplace!
Written on Feb 20 2012Big names (In the Harry Pottter fandom) gathered for a night of fun, music and dancing. Performers such as Luke Conard, Jason Munday, Alex Carpenter, Tonks and the Aurors, and Wingardium Leviosa performed Harry Potter inspired songs known as Wrock (Wizared rock). Afterwords there was a meet and great with the performers. It was a fantastic ending to a fantastic night.
Written on Feb 20 2012This concert was undoubtedly the best I had ever been to and it was one of the best nights of my life. Tonks and the Aurors was absolutely fantastic! Alex Carpenter, Jason Munday, and Luke Conard spent about an hour switching off playing songs, both their own music and music they created together. It was phenomenal!
The atmosphere of the event was fantastic. Everyone there wanted to be there and was having an absolute blast! I loved being a part of that crowd and I can't wait for the next Wrock show!
Written on Feb 20 2012Too much of the music ended up being songs about other topics like youtube or star wars or hunger games, which don't get me wrong, I love, but I went to a WIZARD wrock show for a reason...to hear music about Harry Potter. Loved Wingardium Leviosa and Tonks and the Aurors. Wish more music had been like them.
Written on Feb 20 2012A fun, family friendly event at the historic El Rey Theatre. The performers were fun and engaged the crowd. The headlining act was quite rushed so they didn't interact or say much, if anything, between songs. I brought my 13 and 15 year old nieces and they had a great time.
Written on Feb 20 2012I would definitely recommend this event for any die-hard Harry Potter fan! None of the bands could win American Idol, but it was definitely a fun and enjoyable night!
Written on Feb 20 2012Some music acts far better than others. Two guys were literally doing bad karaoke. First girl was excellent.
Written on Feb 20 2012Wanted more harry potter music. I didn't like the nerd core stuff in the middle of the show. Slowed it down and was boring.
Written on Feb 20 2012WASN'T WHAT I EXPECTED. WE THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO MORE OF A MUSICAL/PLAY. WE LEFT AFTER 3 SONGS.
Written on Feb 20 2012Remarkably few Harry Potter songs for a wizard themed concert. It seemed like they had too many performer cancellations and it started to feel like a variety show at some point.
It was a fun crowd though. If they get a bigger show that has more focus on the theme it would be a total blast.
Written on Feb 20 2012Amazing! The show was amazing! All the acts had such energy and then they were all do nice taking pictures, signing and talking with fans. Honestly the best night of my life :)
Written on Feb 20 2012Atmosphere: n/a. Very few people in robes or anything interesting, Maybe the odd witch hat, Griffindor scarf, etc. And where in the books or movies do we encounter slutty private school uniforms? I must have missed those chapters, 'cause there were lots in evidence. The music? Cringable, narcissistic, horrible, and very often unrelated to Harry Potter or wizardry on any level. Merlin's beard, it was like sectum sempra on the eardrums. Also, why were all the songs organized around explicitly name-dropping characters, etc. I had imagined the idea would be more to inhabit that universe, and hence to showcase the sort of music that the Wizarding world would feature. Like, The Weird Sisterseque material, perhaps. Instead, there was this opportunistic dreck--didn't seem like the artists even care for HP--they'd be just as happy mewling about any popular cultural theme which could translate into youtube hits or 14-year old girls. Appalling. The badness was like one of those old Memorex commercials where the sound is blasting the guy's face in a wind tunnel of horror. It was actually so bad that the badness became a silver lining. Like seeing a geek bite the head off a chicken at a bayou roadside attraction, or midget wrestling, or the Republican primaries--you want to throw up, but you're sort of glad you witnessed it from an anthropological point of view. Another silver lining: if the world does end--for example, we learn that an asteroid is about to impact--I'll know that these artists will be mercifully silenced forever.
Written on Feb 20 2012The concept is great, but there is no excuse for talentless artists who sing off-key with back-up that is terrified to be heard. Such a great turn-out, but attendees were leaving in droves after the first hour.
Written on Feb 20 2012The event was very well organized but the sound quality for the most part was terrible. We couldn't hear the singer for the main half of the set at all, the music was so loud. A few of the opening acts didn't play Wizard Rock at all, and that was fairly disappointing.
