Not a great production, mostly due to lack of direction and some serious miscasting. The performance of the title character (yes, you read that right) was just awful, and sunk the show like an anchor. Every time he appeared, I thought in my mind, "ZANNA DON'T come back on stage. Every time he sang, I thought, "ZANNA DON'T, please DON'T!" To the theatre staff: how is it that Zanna was one of only 2 actors with a microphone, yet his faint whispers could not be heard? All that being said, the kids who played the other characters worked very hard and enjoyed themselves. Kudos to them. Tank, I loved that you could make a joke about yourself, but seriously, eat a cookie. You sounded great in the final number!Written on Feb 28 2012

I have loved this story since I first saw it at the Hyperion-Lyric theater about 5 yrs ago. However, as stated by others, this production felt more like a high-school/community college theater group. I think all of the actors needed microphones, but only some had them & the soundtrack drowned them out. Hey Zanna--keep on projecting like you did in your last solo song--that was GREAT! I think this show can be much better--I appreciated the enthusiasm of the ensemble throughout the show.Written on Feb 28 2012

Did I enjoy this show? I Zanna-DIDN'T. It was amatuer night in Dixie. The show is a transfer from a theater in Bakersfield but in the big city it just seems like a bad high school production. The show itself has promise but with bad direction, terrible staging and awful choreography this version does not live up to the possibilities. It was easy to see that SOME of the performers could have been very good but they didn't stand a chance in this production.Written on Feb 20 2012

I really liked the version of Zanna Don't produced in L.A. about 4 years ago. This latest production was poorly directed and some of the acting was amateurish. Most of the very small audience left during intermission.Written on Jan 30 2012
