The Cape Ann Big Band celebrates its third season with a holiday show of seasonal favorites mixed with a touch of jazz, swing and rock 'n' roll. Formed in December 2010, this 17-piece big band features Medford's own optician Dana Cohen (of Medford Optical) and other talented players, under the direction of Carlos Menezes Jr. The group has been known to play everything from Benny Goodman to Van Halen and music from the likes of The Incredibles and Family Guy. The venue was a bit confusing because the tickets were not in the lobby. So after climbing a bunch of stairs, once you found a volunteer, you had to back down the stairs and around the corner to get the tickets and then return up the stairs to the lobby.
But the show was fantastic. The sound system was well balanced so that even though the singers were singing their hearts out, the audience could still understand them. And the lyrics were very witty and worth listening to.
The versatility of the actors was amazing as they switched from person to person with each song they sung. This show really stretched their skills but they were up for it. A rollicking good time was had by all.
