Wasn't offended. But interesting take on our 7th president. And now having seen the show, I can understand some of the confusion in regards to others being offended. Satire is hard to pull off well, and if you've just read the script I can see how you might miss some of that. But I think the cast does well with the material, and even elevates it. The satire works when employed. And I don't think the script or the production puts Jackson on a pedestal. He's written, and comes across, as a petulant child who throws tantrums when things don't go his way. The hardest truth the script tries to convey is sometimes there are no easy answers. There's just 2 different bad choices and sometimes you just have to choose. That this point comes across in the second half of the show only with no scripted growth coming from the first half makes it harder of a sell. An asshole having to make tough decisions. Could work, but the script lacks. The cast gives it their all and definitely pulls every bit of conflict and growth they can out of the script, but it's the script that lets them down. The songs are fun and peppy (which I always steer towards), and taken on their own I can see why people are drawn to it. Good job to the cast and crew of the show. Also, I have to call a specific shout out to the set design. Best set I've seen in that space. Very immersive, and fits the mood of the show wonderfully. Well done.
