The Minnesota Historical Society offers a 90-minute walking tour of St. Paul's famed Summit Avenue, named one of America's "Great Streets" in 2008. This excursion highlights the Gilded Age mansions that populate this elite neighborhood, while the friendly and knowledgeable guides share the stories of both the architects who built them and the families that resided within these imposing structures. The social history of the area and current preservation issues will also be topics of discussion on this leisurely stroll, which begins outside the Hill House and ends outside the Cathedral of St. Paul. Lieberman labels himself a story teller, but my experience of other story tellers made him come up way short, both in material used and in his body language. If he wanted to alienate his audience, both Jewish and Gentile, he was a roaring success.

Howard wove a compelling autobiographical story that included humor, tragedy and poignancy. I did not feel time pass at all as I sat enthralled by his words. The show was a bit light on the eroticism; still, I enjoyed this performance very much.
