The raucous comedy I Hate Hamlet tells the fast-paced and funny story of a successful and happy TV actor whose entire life is upended when his series is cancelled. Hoping to impress his virginal girlfriend, he reluctantly heads to New York to play Hamlet in Central Park -- a role he's not at all fond of -- and soon finds himself not only haunted by his decision, but by the actual ghost of the legendary Shakespearean actor John Barrymore. Written by Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey, In & Out, Addams Family Values), the play was a hit on Broadway and nominated for a Tony Award. Shadowplay Theatre's version is directed by and stars Peter Moore.

No knowledge of show business is needed to be thoroughly entertained by Shadowplay Theatre's production of "I Hate Hamlet". Peter Moore and Brandon Ewald are well balanced as the stars of playwright Paul Rudnick’s contemporary Broadway comedy. Shanan Custer, Nicole Joy Frethem, Paul Reyburn and Karen Weber provide excellent support.

Description

When successful television actor Andrew Rally moves to New York for the opportunity to play Hamlet on stage, he immediately encounters two problems: First, he hates Hamlet. Second, the beautiful apartment he's renting is haunted by the ghost of legendary actor John Barrymore. The two actors engage in a wildly funny duel over women, art, success, duty, television and, yes, the apartment.

The show is not recommended for children under the age of 12.
